A good friend of mine is coming down from the coast guard and I wanted to take him fishing on the 18th and 19th. It says 20-30 MPH wind on the 18th and quite a bit of rain on the 19th. Anyone have any idea how spot on that tends to be? Won’t make for good fishing obviously lol.
Edit- Sarasota, Fl I’m sure everywhere is a little different.

I gave up on the weather man. He's over paid and under educated. You have a fifty fifty chance if getting good days. DO NOT TRUST. THE WEATHER BUG APP.
If I was in your shoes, I would go ahead and plan on going. The weather forecast can be 100% correct or 100% wrong, so I just take it as a suggestion, particularly ten days out. Just Sayin...RJS
Must be nice to be right perhaps 30% of the time...and still keep your job! I know it is not easy predicting where the highs and lows are going to be 10 days from now as well as where the jet stream will be. I don’t trust a forecast more than 2 days out.
Make your plans and have a backup plan in place. Hope it works out for you!

Neither would I worry about it... Although, having a good "Plan B" never hurts.
Plan A =hi fishing and expect the worst, dress for it
Plan B go fishing and expect the worst dress for it.
Could be a nice day but your ready.

RG,
Coastal forecast are only “close” to being correct for three days. Straight from an old meteorologist.
I fished Florida for several years on the circuit and found this statement to be the rule of thumb.
Best of luck.
I agree with most that has already been said. Nothing wrong with having good raingear if it doesn't rain makes good windbreaker. Good luck an tight lines 👍

Then you can always dress Fred Style if its a nice day
.
I agree bring the gear and can always dress down for comfort.

I always take a peek a boo at weather forecasts. They are a heck of a lot more information than mankind had 100 years ago but its all just a prediction. I have found living in PNW the weather people see the temperatures and the moisture etc but it doesn't mean it can't be off by many hours. I appreciate having a little heads up and always try to be prepared and usually over prepare rather than be cold hot or otherwise, it is not hard to prepare for the worst and then enjoy if it is nicer.
Much easier to take off on site than wish you had it.

"Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it." (An old "saying") ... I rarely even get down the road here, let alone offshore; but, I STILL run the NOAA Weather radio, every time I wake up. (Usually twice in 24 hours.)
I believe that even a 3 day forecast is useless! Being a surfer and an avid fisherman, I’ve learned over the years how to read wind charts, radar, pressures and track storms. Even then, Mother Nature is likely to throw up a curve ball!
