Hello everyone. I am from SE Minnesota. I see many on here are from the south or have experience with saltwater. I fish almost exclusively freshwater in the Midwest and Canada, with the Mississippi River (particularly pools 4, 5, and 5A) being my "home" water.

My kids are adults now, but am still fortunate to fish with them regularly (a different appreciation taking your sons fishing as adults than when they were boys - even more special some days as you know they are doing it by choice). I am still working, but am fortunate to likely fish close to 90 days per year. I am nearing retirement, and hope that number goes up. I have many close fishing buddies (and my brothers too), and do prefer to fish with a companion, but enjoy fishing solo as well.

Fishing is my primary hobby (I also hunt), with walleyes being my favorite, but I also fish for crappies, bass, perch, pike and sunfish . . . I will fish for anything. I release most fish, but do absolutely enjoy eating fish too.

I look forward to hearing your ideas and picking your brains!

Rock Hound (yes, there is a fishing story behind that nickname, and it involves me & two buddies, my boat, and the Canadian Shield - about 8 inches under water at about 40 MPH! . . . no one got hurt, and boat was OK)

Welcome Rockhound, you sure live in a great state for fishing. I’m sure your days on the water will increase once you retire and you’ll get to enjoy time spent with your kids even more, it worked for me.

Fly guy, after looking at your picture, I know who you are, and you know who I am, although you knew my Dad even better.

The lower unit stopped the boat on a dime, but hardly had a scratch. The rock we stopped on was completely under water, and flat on top and was about the size of a wrestling mat (I am quite sure with your wrestling resume that you know what size I am talking about). We had to get out of the boat, standing on the rock, and push the boat back into deeper water!

I am originally from Houston (oldest boy), and you went to the same HS and college as my Dad!

I live in Plainview now.

Do you know who I am?

Fly guy,

I also forgot to mention that you sold me my first truck, and that of course your oldest son and I are one day apart and I think that your wife and my mom even shared the same hospital room in Rochester when we were born.

Pretty sure you can guess who I am.

Oh, yea, you are the Legendary Billy I. You and Brad were roommates and Mary and Marion were roommates. One day apart. Was the Rock Hound incident happen up in Red Lake Canada?

Not a lot of members on here from SE MN. or SW WI. but a few. We are Wintering down in South Padre Island, TX. We have been coming down to fish the Gulf for 11 years now, lots of stories. How is Mary doing? Marion and Mary FB each other. Welcome aboard, kid. 😎

It was in Red Lake, Ontario (Keg Lake actually, which is between Red Lake and Gullrock Lake, but connected through the Chukuni River.

Mom is great, and we are all well!

Say hi to your family!
