Hello,
Just a girl that likes to fish. Trying to get better at it and hoping to learn from the pros. Most of my fishing is done near Jacksonville, FL in the St. Johns River. I enjoy casting and reeling, but would like to get some redfish I can keep.
Redfish have been caught around Mayport about a mile before the USCG Base.

Welcome Smoknashes. Spent some time on the St. John's. But never fished it. Good luck and when you catch a fish post a poc. . Gordon

Welcome to the Fishing Stage, Smoknashes! ... I had a Captain from Jacksonville, many years ago, but, I never got very far from the bus station... I'm no expert on catching redfish; but, I bet there's a few members on here, that ARE. They should be along shortly. Good luck with it all.

hello and good luck. Lots of good info here and the folks are helpful...can bring a smile to your day too. Dont forget to add pics of all the fishies you catch!
Welcome to the stage. I live in Deland. One of the best places for reds is just south of Daytona in Mosquito Lagoon. I’ve caught them on shrimp. They love crabs fished on the bottom. They are often caught in the surf as well. There mouth doesn’t look toothy, but they can scrape your hands up pretty bad if you get careless around the mouth.
I caught this little guy last weekend. Let him go so I can catch him when he's legal.

Way to go Smoknashes. Looks cold there. Dont know much about the St. Johns river. Only been on the water taxi at Jacksonville Landing.
I've been fishing up that way, in the channels that lead up to the Plantation. Mostly been hitting speckled trout and weak fish lately. Maybe the water's too cold? Thank you for the tips.
It was cold that day and colder yesterday. Good fishing to you.
Thank you. The tips are always welcome. I have been using live shrimp as bait. Also trying to pay attention to tides and barometric pressure and water temp for optimal returns.
