My brand new cover is still in the box that has never been opened. Been up in the garage for three years now.
I am like that old song out of the 60's................Day Tripper!
Mine is stored about 1.5 miles away. Cannot have it on our driveways in the neighborhood so it is always covered. I take it to the lake, take off the cover. Fish, clean the water spots off when done and put the cover back on and back to storage. The storage is lit, barbed wire fence, key fob access but I don't like to advertise. The trolling motor comes off and rides in the bed of my truck on a special drawer i made. Even if it was at my house would be covered from prying eyes and, more importantly , the elements. It will last longer, look nicer and smell better if I take care of it. Fishing for extended days, she's at the mercy of the weather - do not cover her up at the dock.
Always tarp my boat. Keeps everything cleaner. Also protects my equipment.
Keep my rig in a locked garage no cover during Summer but cover in winter while inside. Have pet entrance so trailer court stray cats can get in to escape the winter weather and take care of any mice that get into the place. No Mouse damage in the last 5 years they been doin a good job !
Covering while trailering help keep road dirt and salt from getting everywhere can only really do it with a fitted cover

Never trailer with the cover on. 99%of my trips are day trips.

Only cover for winter

I tarp on long trips. Keeps everything in and prying eyes out. Seems to make the boat a little more aerodynamic. I seem to get a little better gas mileage.
I remember as a kid many years ago we were traveling on I-5 in northern California and saw what was left of a speed boat and trailer on the side of the road after somebody had thrown a cigarette but out of car window and it landed on the boat cover and caught fire. All that was left was the trailer frame, motor, and big glob of fiberglass, luckily the people towing the trailer were able to get it disconnected from their truck before it caught fire too.

Just curious how many of you use your boat covers when towing regardless of the weather. When going up to Lake Ontario I always use it because I’m going to use the boat for several days and cover it each night but if just fishing for the day and garaging it at night, not so much.
My boat is housed in detached garage
Normally fishing within 2 hours of home and don’t use cover
Longer trips, Canada 2 day pull. Down into Missouri 5-6 hours yes to both
It helps with anything happening to equipment

I would like to tarp my pontoon for long trips, I've bought 2 fairly expensive ones, each has only lasted one trip, so I do without. Guess I need to keep it under 80 for a tarp to last!

I'm smiling at this topic. I lost a bait bucket once on a short trip, and the cover of a Smokey Joe grill on a longer one. Should have had a cover on for that one!
Mike
I use a cover on longer trips or when I will be out of the car for a short time, to keep pesky little theives from seeing what I have in ny boat.
Out of sight is ought of mind
Cover it, don't cover it, there are pros and cons for both sides. Just make sure you pull the plug before you start out. I once towed my boat 900 miles in a rain without a cover and forgot the plug. I had a boat full of water and some serious damage when I got to my destination. I know that is a basic, but a long trip and a trip to the local boat ramp are two completely different mind sets. Good Luck.
I usually keep a cover on mine. Too much road dirt and bugs to clean off!
I have canvas seat covers that I typically leave on until I get to the ramp. I usually keep my boat in the garage so I don't cover it.
On Canada trips I cover up. Keeps the dust from the 50 mile logging road leg out of everything. I really like it for the trip home, because I don't have to take the time to carefully pack the boat. Just throw stuff in willy-nilly,tarp it down and head out. Sort things out at home!
