Has anyone used a trot line from shore, and if so, how did they do it. I want to try it in a lake.

Welcome to the Fishing Stage, DougH! (Even though, I see that you have probably been reading for a while...)
I'm certain that I had tried using a trot line from shore, 40ish or so years ago... Don't recall any success. I'm guessing that the biggest consideration needs to be: ¿Where are the fish AT?
Checking the regs is a given. I think he just wants tips on how to do it most effectively. I'd like to learn too; always wanted to try it.

Welcome to the Stage Doug. I haven’t trot lined in years. Do you have a boat to take the line out? Tie it to a tree or something that won’t give with the weights and fish on it. Thats about all I know.

I don't know how well this would "turn out"; but, I've been thinking about this and wonder if, while you are baiting up the line; be laying it on the bank, in a "zig-zag pattern", to where It'll all wanna run overboard smoothly... Tie something relatively heavy on the end of it and throw it out there, as far as you can? ¿Maybe use a slingshot?
