I went to Petenwell several times this year casting for Musky and fishing some down trees near what they call the Devil's Elbow. You have to be careful as it is very shallow in some areas. Caught a large crappy near a downed tree but nothing else much. I do notice some shore fisherman on a nearby flat in the evening catching walleyes. I fished the area out from Romano's bar and did raise a couple but didn't get any to bite. There is a very backwoods boat launch right by that bar that actually worked out quite well. The key if you go in there is to not stray too far from the channel without paying close attention to your depth. As far as the main waters I hear it is mostly like a mudflat and you need to learn the patterns/sonar well to find fish. I haven't fished the main body yet so that's just rumor as far as I know.

I have a house on the Pettenwell and am always looking for a partner if u r interested. I do a lot of Bass fishing because I can catch them in different lakes but not many on the Pete. Also am a multi species guy. In reference to fly fishing is some really good visuals by Mel Krueger that I have and I learned a bunch just by watching them and than going out to fly fish.

If this is an open invitation, let’s set something up for Spring or early Summer as I am always willing to learn new spots and techniques.

I don't have any special spots. They place bouys out around Memorial day to help navigate. It's not too tricky to learn the water and all the maps show the channel. Devils Elbow is fished hard for Musky and the area around the trees by the island is fished extremely hard all season. I would be receptive to meet in the spring as I am not an ice guy. I am still fishing Lake Michigan when the weather is ok. Fishing for Perch and Lakers Some luck not breaking records

Thanks Tom. I'll keep your message handy and when it gets closer to Spring, give you a shout. Would be fun to fish the Pete with someone that knows it.

I’ll reach out when I know we will be in the area to see if it will work out.

nov 8th i was on lake helena between arena and spring green. i went for crappie which was pretty good 2 weeks ago, but the water is lower and the crappie weren't hitting. i picked up my rod with a shad rap and when it was all over i had landed and released a 6lb 12 oz a 6lb 9 oz a 3lb 4oz and a 2lb 14 oz largemouth much to my surprise. guess i'll try it tomorrow.
