There is lake near me that does not allow any boats float tubes or wading. It is the saint Paul Minnesota drinking water supply. It is legal to fish from shore. I Was thinking of using my drone to get my lure out farther than I can cast it. I have also fished in Florida and Texas and thought it would work there? I do not know if is legal or not?.

Adrian you would have to check with your state DNR,or whatever it's called there. I would think not based on the fact that you can't even wade into the water, what happens if you crash the drone in the water. If they don't want you stepping in the water, they probably don't want lithium ion batteries in there either. Check with the authorities for a definitive answer.

There are some videos on utube. Mostly surf fishing. Fredfish is right about checking with your local fish and game dept along with whoever is in charge of the lake.

I have seen video of people using kites for fishing of coastal waters. I don't think would work well on this lake. Maybe on lake superior or lake milllacs. They use kites to ski across the ice there. I was thinking of using my drone to troll my lure attached to my rod and using a release from my down riggers to release the drone if snagged or fish on !. I have not seen any rules in my Minnesota DNR license book about this.

There is radio station here in Minnesota that is hunting and fishing talk . I have talked before with Larry Boleg and Mark FIsher. They have been guided up here for decades. I will contact them and see if my idea has been tried before or if it's legal

✓,✓ & ✓✓; before using the drone... I have real doubts that "they" would want anyone risking crashing batteries into their drinking water.

Thay will not let anyone ice fish on this lake also. They pump water from the Mississippi river into pleasant lake which in North Oaks a gated community where only residents can use . Vice president Mondale lives there. Then it flows into lake vadnis which is restricted to shore fishing only. My friend that used to live near it has caught some big walleyes there before.

I just looked at drones made just for fishing I never knew that they made them. Can be used in freshwater or saltwater. If they crash they are supposed to upright themselves and fly back to your gps coordinate. It would be much easier than pulling my boat behind my RV. No gas or weed inspections needed and I could launch it wherever there are no launches or have to wait to launch. My wife still thinks that I am nuts. 🛶

I know that they make radio controlled boats, designed to fish, but didn't know about drones. Especially ones that could recover from a crash, launch themselves, and find their way back.

They are spendy 1,000$ and up mine is just a 300 $ They also make underwater drones with cameras Told my wife about ideas and she asked if I thought I was Jauck Coustoh. I do live close to lake superior and do not like taking my 18 foot crestliner out there because of the weather and lack of good launches. I told her I could fly my .drone off the beaches where I cannot wade or get my boat there safety. One drone can carry a life jacket and drop it to someone in the lake .

After more research I am going to add a fishing drone to my fishing arsenal. I used a map and compass for years. Then bought a Loran c when they came out. A green box Lawrence fish detector now I have gps satellite devices on everything. I am going for the drone fishing? I don't know Iif icould legally fly it over Canadian waters from Minnesota. They would probably shoot it down lol.

Probably, and you'll be getting a visit from Homeland Security.
