What is this gadget. What is the biggest size should you use. Does your state have a size limit. Why shouldn’t you make a very big hole. How thick should hard ice be before it is safe to walk out on and fish. Unscramble this and make a hole with it. GURAE.

That would be an Ice AUGER, Mike. The ice had better be 4" thick for me to walk on it. I don't know big they can be.

Good one Kandy, pay attention guys, words never spoken by a women before!
I have seen augers up to 10”, but that is an awful lot of work. There are motorized and now rechargeable units as well as those you can hook up to a 1/2” cordless power drill. Those make me wonder how many of the auger bits end up on the bottom, though. 🤔
I tried one those things this summer in my boat that was the best fishing hole I had all summer.🙃

Neither do I know of a size limit, here. To me, it is a non-issue... I'm done ice fishing.
My 9th-grade fishing buddy, Ricky; was the proud owner of the auger... I'm pretty sure that he had put a lanyard on that rascal, up high near the "palm knob"... I don't think I'd be boring holes in the ice, without the tool being tied to me.

Ice auger for ice fishing. I have a 7” Kdrill. Most states don’t allow a hole in the ice over 8” so people won’t step in them and fall through. I don’t ARGUE with that. I won’t go on the ice if it’s not 4” minimum and really wait for a good foot or so before I venture out there.
Everyone knows if you get a leak in your boat you can use that to let the water out. Didn't you ever watch The three stooges?

Mine is plastic with a float on it. It won’t sink. Even with the drill on it.

Would hate if I put a 10” hole in the bottom of my boat just to have a secure place to fish by myself. 😂😂🤛
I have never used an manual AUGER. I don't ice fish. 👍
