Stupid question

My son put braided line on my fishing pole. I fish with a bobber and I noticed that the line will not get tight. It just floats on top of the water. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I'm not sure what you mean T, braid does float. What do you mean by tight, where below the bobber, or above?

TCroft: Well, not necessarily. Since you are fishing with a float, the float is the most imoportant visual part, since it will indicate when you are getting a bite. In my opinon it doesn't matter if your line floats, or not.

I suggest you should keep as tight a line as possible, reel until it starts to move the float, then stop. You want to have as little slack in the line as possible. When you do get a bite and the float goes under you would then jerk your rod to set the hook. Just Sayin...RJS

Do you think the line is slipping on the bobber?

You beat me to it Ben. Braid is so slick that if you’re using a traditional plastic bobber you’ll need to hook it both above and below on those rascals

I’d wrap it around the shaft of the little clippy thing just to be sure

Above. On long cast it makes it harder to set the hook. I've got to much slack.

I see what you mean, it's much lighter than mono, so any breeze will move it around. If you keep the rod tip low it will catch less air, other than that, reel up the slack more often. On the flip side, it has virtually NO stretch, so your hookset delivers more energy to the hook. Even to the point of pulling the hook out of the fish's mouth.
It will take a while to get used to it, but the improved casting distance, and no stretch is worth it, in my opinion.

To ensure that the line won't slip through the clips, I suppose I'd "throw" a CLOVE-HITCH on at least one of those wire hooks of the bobber y maybe on both... Hell, that's only an extra minute of rigging, if that.

I’ve never used braid but I sure learned a lot reading this post.
I think the only stupid question is the one you don’t ask.

I use braid but not for bobber fishing or on my 4 lb ultra lites. There I use flouro or mono . Mono floats flouro sinks. Depends on the lure and which part of the water column I am fishing in.
