Hey Goofy, north to northeast where? If you put a city and state on your profile page,we won't have to ask every time.
Thanks.

I am sure people from those areas have ice fished before. That does NOT mean it was this year though.

The ice is good all over the North and North East. 2'-3' in places. Some even more.

If you put your city and state in your profile people will know the general area you're talking about.

goofydude; I would sure be researching the FACTS of the moment, before setting foot, out on any ice in this neck'o the woods, just yet... (Lake Erie was throwing 12-foot waves, just recently!) Hell, if you are planning on traveling a little (sounds like you may be); I'd locate some bait shops (via the internet) around where you are thinking about fishing. See if you can get any information out of them.

Hey I've ice fished before, when I lived in Florida use to take the boat out on Tampa bay it was great find my spot toss the anchor out ( just remember to tie the other end of the line to your boat) kick back pop a top and relax but what the hardest part was trying to figure out how to keep the ice cube on your hook.

There’s no ice on any of the lakes here in southwestern New York and it doesn’t look like there will be any time soon looking at the forecast maybe by February I’ll be out on it

Well, THAT'S where "thinking ahead" comes in handy: First, you've gotta fill your ice tray, as normal... Now, carefully lean an appropriate sized hook into the "corners" (only 1 per "pocket", now) of each pocket of the ice tray. Freezem. Problem SOLVED!!
