That's quite an ask. There's hundreds of 55+ places all over Florida. There's mobilhome parks all the way to high rises. How much you want to spend. What kind of fishing do you do. High end living & fresh water Orlando is an area to start. Lower end there's nice mobile homes that are a stones throw from the Gulf in Pasco county for salt water. I would suggest you talk to a real estate agent. Tell him what you're looking and your price range.

South Florida has snook, reds and tarpon. You need look no farther. Be damn sure to get title insurance. Many games have been played with real estate in that part of the world.

If central FL would work, several communities on the Harris chain of lakes.

Hey fishfinder i am in the process of doing the opposite. Just moved from much warmer NC to this cold crap in Maryland. Loved the south living for the past 16 years with my dock just 300 feet away from the house.

That is until the hurricanes / tropical storms would bring their power under my house. I don't miss them nor the red ants, snakes, gators, various spider species, rust on every tool in the garage, rotting exposed lumber and the humidity of living on the waters edge. All of this is to just say the least.

It is a whole different life style in the south much easier going is the major plus. Getting things repaired is basically if you have the dime they have the time. When they get around to it.

But don't get me wrong i enjoyed my time there in the Carolinas and adapting was fine in my 50's and 60's. At 70 i figure it's time to kick back and enjoy what little time i have left instead of fixing things.

So just giving you a heads up to Southern Living.

Lots of great fishing - fresh & salt on the Gulf coast. Lots of variety in terms of how crowded, types of neighborhoods, etc. if you want access to good Tarpon fishing pick Venice and further South.

Lived and worked in,Philadelphia most of my life . Tired,of crowds and traffic.
Heard fort Myers in winter has bad traffic.
Looked at Bonita springs and it looks to be a smaller and maybe less crowded area. What do you think ?

Take it from a former N.H.
resident - that's a good thing !
Florida weather is a lot easier on old bones and arthritic joints ! A lot less aches and pains in the winter, plus fresh- AND salt-water fishing ! - Good move !

Funny, I lived in Florida briefly
(Haines City - Nov. '82 to May '83)
and never heard/suspected there was freshwater trout available ! After reading your post, l looked into it - the only reference to freshwater trout I could find
was way up near Tallahassee ! While finding trout in Florida was good news, the 4-1/2 hour drive
to get there would have been prohibitive - way too far for a day trip ! The other caveat is that the pond is fly-fishing only, with a fee of $25/day ! Still, good to know !

Ft Meters is definitely crowded, it's particularly bad in the winter.
