I will be retiring soon, and my son in laws are trying to help me with new hobbies. I was an avid golfer for 30 years until my health has slowly started taking that away from me. So I am taking up fishing. One of my son in laws has a boat in Corpus, he took me out to Laguna Madre a week ago, and I had a blast. But I would like to find public piers to go and maybe try and perfect the skill. Maybe by the coast like around port o'conner or seadrift. If anyone has any recommendations on where I can go, it will be very much appreciated. Thanks guys
Popop welcome Sorry can’t help ya , I’m kinda geographically distant
There are a whole lot worse ways to spend your free time!
Popop: While you have access to a son in law with a boat, why deprive yourself of that connection? Seems that you enjoyed yourself with on in the laguna Madre, so why stop? I doubt that pier fishing will equal find them in a boat. You can find a lot of current information by googling Texas Game and Fish Commissin Salt Water fishing Locations. Just Sayin..RJS

Welcome to the Forum, Popop, thanks for putting your location on the profile page. You live near a lot of good saltwater fishing areas. There is nothing wrong with the two that you mentioned or Port Lavaca. Personally, I like the Port Aransas, area. Particularly, the pike going from Aransas to Port A. Keep in mind the saltwater fishing slows way down during the winter months. Good Luck!

Visit the piers several times mornings and evenings. In SoCal there were 5 piers within one hours drive. They all had "regulars." If you start fishing one regularly you will eventually be included into the "fraternity". Take a dozen donuts after you connect with someone. The fishing will be great also.

Good to have you Popop, fishing is even better than golf in my opinion.

Welcome to the Fishing Stage, Popop! I've got zero% experience in your neck'o the woods, so; I'd better leave the advice, to the REAL Texans. (I had a Freeport address, for part of 1982... Don't really COUNT!)
Maybe Golfer should be. Just think of all the tackle just one sack of clubs would buy? Then club membership, green fees, tips for caddy, I could go on, but you might begint to think i was a player. No one bets who is a fisherman, or at least I've never heard of such. Fishing is good for the soul. When a few decades ago when I tried to play golf, I left the course disgusted, and with a few profane words about not ever going back. Justr Sayin...RJS
Some of the best bass fishing where I live is on private golf courses. I’m not a member so I need to bring a rake along with my pole so that it looks like I’m working the course but on a break. Kinda like walking around with a broom in the army.

Thanks for the reply Rob. While he works weekdays and I am off during the week a lot. I would like to get better, so the next time we go on the boat he won't have to waste his time helping me so much.
