My little project for the winter
Bought this 16 foot canoe at the beginning of fall. Had it out a few times. Liked it, but thought it needed a few things. So the building began. Its not quite done yet !!! The deck will be replaced hopefully this winter again with aluminum instead of 2x2. Also with carpet over the deck. And the motor mount will also get redone to aluminum base and probably a piece of teak wood. I will install an anchor trolley for the spike and a few other things later this winter.
Thats very cool! Im thinking those coolers serve a dual purpose. Keep beers cold, fish storage and act as stabilizers.
Actually, I guess thats a triple purpose.
Looks like a nice little project! Hope you get it out and catch a bunch of fish off it! Pretty creative design.

Where is the grill?
You the man Rob. Where are you launching that canoe there in Balto?
The grill is coming some how. Yes coolers act as stabilizers . and casting deck is fun. Can walk all the way to the cooler and not flip. I launch this thing out of a couple of areas but mostly in middle river at wilson point

That sounds really cool. Got to see a pic out on the water. Casting neck fun? You mean you can cast from that canoe?
Yes the casting deck works great. You can stand on it No problem. The cooler saddle (as I call it ) keeps everything from tipping over. My friends and I are setting up a 3 day trip down the Shenandoah River 30 miles 3 days of fishing . can't wait. 7 guys 3 canoes and 1 yak. Should be epic . the coolers will get a work out then

Hope that is a spring / summer trip. Just sounds cold right about now.

Rob; ¿What material is that "deck" fashioned out of? (I'm hoping that it's "Marine-Plywood", covered with Gel-Coat... It almost looks like "particle-board"; if it is; I would truly recommend "rethinking that"... That stuff would be liable to "turn to mush"; once it got good'n SOAKED.

Never MIND... I "enlarged it" y now, see that it is, in fact; plywood.
Yes its going to be a spring trip. Yes its marine plywood . used oil base primer with mold and mildew repellant in it and 2 coats of oil base top coat. It is basically my trial version before I put it on an aluminum frame and carpet it. Best part of this whole project is that I have had all the materials so far and only had to buy a few fasteners.

Hell's Bells, man; get it the way it WORKS WELL; then see if you can acquire what's known as a "Design Patent" on the thing!!! (A "Patent Attorney", would probably have to be consulted.) Ya might be capable of either making some to sell, or hiring someone else, to be producing some to $ell! (Looks like an AWFULLY good idea, to me!!)

That’s sweet. Good job, like to hear how your trip goes, what an adventure. Was gonna do float trip this fall but we had sub-zero temps during our launch date. Needless to say we made a different plan.
I have seen a canoe setup with outriggers and oars for rowing. Basically turned into a drift boat.
