Two anglers in Texas face multiple charges and civil restitution after being caught with 173 crappie over the legal possession limit.

Texas Game Wardens in Upshur County, acting on a late-November tip pertaining to a giant pile of fish that had been cleaned and dumped at Lake O’ the Pines, found two men in possession of the gross over-limit.

Wardens seized 350 crappie fillets and donated the fish to “multiple families around the area,” according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Crappie, in the sunfish family, are popular among recreational anglers in Texas. The daily catch and possession limit is 25 fish per person.

This brings to mind, an afternoon in mid-¿1993?; ... We were fixin' on setting out ~18(+/-) nautical miles of line/ ~350 hooks on it (LEGAL, with PROPER LICENCING/ PERMIT) [in Florida waters] ... We were yet "steaming east", at VERY near the "line" between U.S. Territorial Waters & Bahamian Waters... The "hook dude" asks the Captain: "¿Are we POACHIN'?" ... The Captain looks up at "the numbers", pulls out & looks at the chart... Rolls it up & puts it away, then turns to "the hook dude" & replies: "Not YET!"

Between me and my brother , we put up that many bags of crappie while on vacation this past summer
BUT we did it legally over the course of a week. And we properly disposed of the heads after we cleaned em. Not dumping them where someone else would have to deal with it.
Greedy slime balls like that bring everybody down.

Well, that's the only way I'll do ANYTHING, anymore = LEGALLY. [I learned a LONG time ago, that: 1) Breaking the law costs ALOT OF MONEY. y 2) ¡There ain't 1 single thing that I "care to do", while being locked inside of a cage; for ANY length of time!]

b Anglers nabbed with 173 fish over the limit; ch... (show quote)

They weren’t “anglers”. They were finaglers and scumbags. They’re fishing gear, vehicle, and licenses were taken, and I hope they get a large fine. My wife worked for a judge and when the game wardens brought the scumbags into court, the judge took everything away from them that was confiscated by the wardens, and tacked on a hefty fine. If they couldn’t pay the fine, they were sent to county lockup. The jail upstairs was loaded with fishing gear and rifles.

I agree should be down the legal way but I don’t want to chastised them. I know years ago back in the 60s some people got caught doing the same thing. They were living in a cardboard and plastic lean to no money job or food. The judge let them off and people took up collection to help them out. When asked why he did not ask for help. He said he was doing ok that he felt they would get by till they got back on their feet. To me bottom line they were to proud to ask. Back in those days people tend to fend for themselves. Just thinking out loud.

So stealing is OK when you are down and out? Better than panhandling? Just asking...

Sounds like they got everything they deserve. My father taught me stealing is stealing and that's all I'm going to say about that
