Lt. Colonel Handles Hecklers!

Several years ago, I had the privilege to meet and visit with the father of one our friends who lived in Houston. At this time, the Colonel lived in a bedroom city that was near Dallas. We both had been in the U.S. Air Force, but he had made a career of almost 30 years.

One of the stories he told me was about when he had been stationed on the West Coast and had been assigned to go to one of the colleges and talk to any of the students who might be interested in joining the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Program. While those interested were receptive, when he was leaving, there was another contingent who were harassing him and quite hostile.

He attempted to just leave but there was one kid who followed him and continued to harangue him as he was walking to his car. Finally, the Colonel turned around to this kid and pointed to all the campaign ribbons on his blouse and said, “Kid, see all these ribbons, each one represents another way to kill someone. Pick out the one you would like for me to demonstrate on you” That was enough to end the kid’s braggadocio and he turned around and walked away. Sometimes a more direct approach in required, over tact. Just Sayin…RJS

Sounds like the Lt. Col. handled that turd, appropriately. (I've gotta cousin who must be retired by now; last I heard, was a Lot. Col. in the U.S.Air Force. ... He lived near LA... Not entirely sure, what his most recent "Duty Station" was...)

Great story! FLY, FIGHT and WIN!

Not to start an inter service battle here but please remember this simple fact: In JUST the 8th Air Force during WW 2, more men were killed (over 24,000) than were lost in the entire U.S. Marine Corps.

Yes, I had cousins there as ground crew but got missions as gunners because of the high attrition rate. Just Sayin...RJS
