One of my favorite dogs (named ranger) when he put his nose down it didn't come up till he flushed it. sometimes, when we were done, his nose would be shredded. Pheasant hunting one year, we got out of the truck and he immediately went on point at this tiny bush, I told him to come and he moved over to me and went back on point. I looked at the little bush and saw nothing but he wouldn't budge. I reached in with my hand to show him that whatever was there had gone......... and put my hand down on a baby quail smaller than a tennis ball, great great dog. Had another good one with and Irish setter (Silky) she always looked back to see where I was.

I had a Female Lab along time ago that was fantastic. If we were hunting Pheasant and the bird ran away from us she would bailout of the ditch or brush and run out 70/80yds and head right back at me. Then would flush the bird right in front of me. No collar and just talking to her. She was a real birder, even pointed and for a Lab that was pretty good to me.
