Just curious about the holidays

I’m just wondering what Thanksgiving and, or Christmas, holidays in general have to do with staying home. I see people on here saying they’re not going to see family over the holidays but they show pictures of going out fishing with their buddies. Like yesterday. Theres plenty of talk about fishing and hunting trips all over the place and people will travel hundreds of miles to do it but when it comes to family holiday visits they’re not going. It just kinda confuses me why someone would travel 500 hundred miles a month ago to go hunting or fishing in an area they don’t know with people they have never met but won’t go see their daughter a month later. I mean not wearing a mask or anything and it’s just fine to go hang out with people fishing and hunting but they won’t go to thanksgiving dinner with family. 🤷‍♂️

It's hard to look inside someone's head and know what they are thinking. Human beings are experts at rationalizing why and why they won't do certain things. I think maybe the hunting and fishing activities outside may be viewed as safer than a confined, indoor activity where people are in close quarters like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Just a guess. Or it could be that hunting and fishing is simply a more attractive activity than visiting relatives. People will rationalize any behavior when it suits their agenda.

That’s very true. Those who say “JUST WEAR THE DAMN MASK” probably don’t wear one themselves. You know those kind who only reply for the sake of arguing? Lots of those now days. I just do what I do like everyone else.

Exactly :-) Here in California, they are limiting family get togethers to a certain amount of people and they can only celebrate it outdoors! GAWD! Can I move back to Idaho!!!
How was steelhead fishing up there this season, Catfish? I lived fishing up there on the Salmon and Little Salmon :-) Great smallie fishing there on the Salmon too!

I am excited for Thanksgiving Dinner and seeing Family. As of Today our Dinner may not be as attractive for health reasons. Sister-in-law is a Nurse and both hospitals she works at are getting overloaded currently with CV-19 cases (again By the way).

If I go fishing and hunting I am probably not in close quarters with buddies. I can easily attempt to keep a distance and drive my own rig. Cook and share food but don't be up in each others face like at a table where everyone is elbow to elbow sharing and touching everything on the table let alone breathing the same air.

Masks etc are in prevention of spreading to others so it is about not being a selfish jerk and trying to do your part in combatting this problem.

My brother already informed me, the other day; that there will be NO gatherings at his house, this year. (It's where the entire "close" family, usually ends up/ us "eating in shifts", even.) Some people "dread the holidays" anyway {I'm not really one of those.}; I know that, as long as I try to keep proper nourishment in me & concentrate upon "doing my own most important next right thing"; it'll all work out in the wash. Trying to "not be a burden" on anyone else.
Yeah, even without having any symptoms, I DO wear a mask to even open the door, when someone knocks. I don't wear one sitting around here, all by myself.

Where abouts? I live in Pollock. The steelhead are showing up real good right now. I don’t fish for them any more but they’re catching a bunch right now. I caught several steelhead last winter but most were wild ones. Some good ones though. I had 5 over 15 pounds last winter. Fun to catch but I’d rather fish cascade lake through the ice for Camaloop. We catch a few wild steelhead through the ice there too but they’re not real big. Our biggest last year was 7 pounds. Nice fish but the Camaloop taste a whole lot better plus you can keep 6 a day if you want. We usually keep one or two each time and eat em fresh or smoke em. We’re after jumbo perch mostly. We keep and eat all the perch over 10”. They’re really good.
The smallie fishing is still excellent on the big river. I fish for them in July and August and catch a bunch. Nothing big. My PB smallie on the big river is 3 pounds but most are a pound or less but you can catch a bunch. I like Pittsburgh landing on the Snake for smallies. Catch one almost every cast and they’re usually quite a bit bigger over there. Takes me about an hour to get there.

Hence the whole idea behind social distancing. Which I practice faithfully. If one good thing has come from all of this it’s made people stay the hell outa my bubble. The “selfish jerk” is the one who wears a mask and thinks it’s ok to get in everyone’s space. If you are wearing a mask you should be protected right? Why worry about it? Just wear your mask and you are safe from all others. Don’t go around people and you won’t need to suffer trying to breath with a mask on. My wife has athsma and can’t wear a mask. People don’t care about that. Within 30 seconds of putting a mask on she can’t breath at all. So she should k**l herself to protect others or how is that supposed to work? She, as well as I, don’t go places we might need a mask. That don’t matter to some people. If you’re not wearing a mask now you’re selfish? “Come on man!!!”
