I'm hoping to have one of those metal "carport" buildings built to store my boat under. Mainly to protect from spring hail storms that we have and also additional protection from rain. No sides, no installation. I'm thinking 10x30x12. I was hoping for the $1,000 - $1,200 range. First quote was more than triple that amount. Two more quotes lined up.

I might be looking for Plan B as I can't justify $3,600 for a tin roof over my boat.

I'm hopeful that one of the other sources will come in substantially lower.

How big is your boat, does it have to be 30' can you do 20 or 25' that would bring the price down quite a bit

My boat is 17 1/2. I could probably get by with 25ft to get coverage over the engine. Maybe that will bring the price down?

You could always wrap a tarp around the engine if you had to

I'm mostly concerned with protecting it from the all too frequent hail storms we have here in Texas. A tarp wouldn't provide any protection from hail. You can see a lot of vehicles in this area with hail dents in them if you pay attention. Hail, tornadoes, and heat...not for the faint of heart but IMO better than the snow that my northern friends have to deal with!

Yeah, no matter where you live at, "it's always something";... I wonder if an "Army Surplus" kind of a business, might not be able to sell you something workable, at a reasonable price.

From Texas no wonder that price is so high.
I had a 18' × 24' × 12' shed with concrete flooring built for $2,800.

Harbor Freight offers a fully enclosed fabric 17' car canopy that you can catch on sale for $139 +tax or buy today@$199+tax. At those savings, you can buy another cover(s) after the hail storm(s). Around here, everyone builds a 2 story tall wooden structure after pouring slab and tops with a tin roof. They are extremely popular, we are in the rural area and I don't believe it's due to neighborhood codes(could be?). I imagine that contractor can afford a larger sportfishing set-up than most 'cause he has plenty of work. This canopy is 10'x17''x9.3' and is the Coverpro brand.
