I missed it the first time I looked at the picture. Don't make that mistake.
As did I; had to go back to see what I missed after reading a couple of posts ! As a young 'un,
my grand-father sometimes took us kids (brother, cousin and myself) out with our neighbor
or my great-uncle (his sister in-law's husband) in their boats to the nearest river, lake or pond
to fish for bluegills, perch or bullheads (horned-pout) !
As young kids (7 to 10 yrs.), we weren't given rods and reels to
fish with; we used hand lines
(see photo) with a hook, crimp-
on lead weight, and size 6 baitholder hooks tipped with a garden worm or half a
'crawler ! Got a spin-cast rig at
age 12 (hated those internal
birds' nests), then finally bought my first spinning rig at age 15 !
As much as I despised those
hand lines and spin-cast reels,
it was a wonder I stuck with fishing at all; only put up with
them to spend time with my grand-father, whom I cherished and whose company I craved !
Once I had decent equipment
and started catching quality
fish (largemouths/smallies/
trout) I finally started to enjoy
and appreciate his favorite
sport and looking forward
to more outings !
