What is it. Have any of y’all ever caught one? Is it fresh water or saltwater fish? Is it good to eat? What kind of bait does it like?

Looks like a bowfin commonly called a "mudfish" in S.C. Usually found in fresh water. Not good to eat. Have caught using topwater plugs such as a devil horse or hula popper. Fun to catch. Will also hit metal spoons gold and silver.

Bigfoot, they are called different names depending on their location. We call them Grinnel here where I live. Various names: Common names include mudfish, mud pike, dogfish, griddle, grinnel, swamp trout, and choupique.
If they’re prepared right, they’re delicious. We call them Grinnel balls, a little larger than hush puppies.

Hack, Joe may be reffering to a snakehead. It is an invasive species from Asia.

Now that’s a nasty looking “fish”? I guess some jerk snuck it back to the US and cut it loose when it got too big or something, like all those pythons in Florida. Some Vietnam vet might have brought it back, who knows. Thanks Sterba

Hack, don't blame those slimy fish on me. I came home in a hospital gown, no bag or baggage. The 1st one I caught i cut my line cause I didn't know what had me & i didn't want no part of it. Tight lines old man.

What’s you talkin ‘bout Willis? Who u calling old man? LOL
Did I ever tell you about the fish I caught while over there? I had a KBar and we were waiting for an air assault and I noticed a small pond. I fixed up a rig with a hook, line, and I found a bug I used for bait. I tossed it into the water and bingo, I caught a fish. I dragged the fish over and picked it up by the line. It was a nasty looking brown thing with a mouth full of teeth. I could have sworn the damn thing growled at me. I threw the line and the fish back in the water. So much for Asian fishing...

When i was in southeast Asia the United States Army furnished us fishbait. Lots of streams & rivers over there & yes, some of the fish were different. If we found a good deep hole in a stream just toss in 1 grenade & in a moment there was fish everywhere. I don't know if the Marines & Air Force could go armed but us soldiers could. We had lots of exciting hikes through the woods & would often stop & picnic near a quiet stream. Some of the lucky guys like me even got to spend a lot of nights sleeping in the woods & enjoying the sounds of nature all around us. Yea, I'm getting old too.
