I think maybe that's what my granddad in Indiana called a dogfish. He used to catch em and cuss em out. Dogfish was his term around polite company. Between he and I they were ragged assed bastards. I don't think he had much good for em.

Correct Catfish. Here’s all the names they are called depending on where they are.

Bowfin (Amia calva) are bony fish related to gars in the infraclass Holostei. Common names include mudfish, mud pike, dogfish, griddle, grinnel, swamp trout, and Choupique.

Found in: Lake Winnipesaukee, Leech Lake, Gun Lake, Ross R Barnett Reservoir, Lake Michigan, Lake Minnetonka, Lake Simcoe, Lake Talquin, Lake Wylie. They are found down here too.

I’ve eaten them made into grinnel balls and deep fried. They were delicious. If you ever catch one, skin it and look up a recipe for frying them.

Yeah Spirit, that’s one of the names they’re called. Not raggedy ass bastards, but dogfish. Common names include mudfish, mud pike, dogfish, griddle, grinnel, swamp trout, and choupique. So now ya know.

Crappie. I’m west of the Cajun country. I wonder if they both taste the same? Hmm.🤔

Thank ya Fourchon. It’d be cool if I came to Fourchon and we fished together. I probably couldn’t understand you, but maybe you couldn’t understand me either. 😂

Us Cajuns, I’m like Justin Wilson, a half bleed, Lorio on my mothers side, picked up a lot from the Choctaw Indians, they influenced our cooking as well. Our gumbo file, ground Sasafrass leaves came from the Choctaw’s.

Sterna, Why’d you leave such a great fishing state as Louisiana? Y’all have it all when it comes to fishing.

You’re welcome to look me up if you’re ever in these parts. I’m fluent in English so there’s no worries there. I’m pretty sure I can understand you. If not we both speak fishing.
