Anyone know septic tanks

My wife and I live in a rural are of NE TN. We have a septic tank.

If my friend rents from me and puts his trailer on my property, does it make sense to tap into my septic tank for his waste? Or should he have a separate tank? It's just him and his girlfriend.

Just curious if anyone knows about this idea. It's all very new to me. Thanks for your feedback. Greg

Either way is possible. Definitely have Local Code etc to deal with. If trailer will be close to existing sewer Main it might make sense to add it if its legal and permitting allows. Size of your current system is also a factor. Sometimes easier to make another system but all costs money either way.

Thnx Jeremy. Trailer would be on back end of property away from current tank. Would probably take a pretty long line to reach current tank.

Depends on the codes for where you live. In Sevier county it is o.k. but inside the city limits it might not be.

Sounds like the best idea would be to ✓ 2C, if local building code allows it. If that's no issue, I guess, consider ¿What is gravity gonna do/ what drains outta the trailer? ... If it would allow me to avoid installing a 2nd septic tank; I'd share the tank. (I guess I TRULY would ask a real-live plumber, first of all.)

I suggest separate systems long sewer lines can be a problem. Plumbing contractor can tell you if current system will handle added volume and meet codes

Thanks guys. Some solid feedback. If I do this at all, I want to do it right but not cost me big $$ if possible. The codes here are pretty non-existent for a rural area.

G if it'll be a long line to the tank you'll have to figure drop of line going out to the tank. 1/4 inch fall for 1 foot of horizontal pipe. over a long distance your tank may not provide enough drop in exit line.

Thnx Ivey. I'm starting to think a separate tank would be the way to go. Not sure about the tank cost and installation. Might be more than I want to pay.

Save the Pm just saw it.

When the house is built the septic system is designed per the # of bedrooms / projected occupants of the dwelling. If you tap in by way of adding more foreseeable occupants you may overload the system.

Not so much the tank, that can be pumped out. It is the drain field that would get saturated.

Any idea on cost of another tank and hook-up? Ballpark cost is fine if you know.

Field line + field line gravel+ price of the tank + back-ho labor + permits and probably a perk test 2 to 5 grand easy maybe more depending on labor rate. You may can get by cheeper by tying him into your existing field line if you have enough to handle extra water. When I had mine installed I put extra field line installed so I'd never have the problems Plum mentioned, but if you didn't do it yourself you'll have a hard time figuring out how much line you have in the ground.

Bought the house 2 years ago. Not sure what the current tank has. Probably one line. The line from where the trailers would sit would be at least 20 to 30 yards.
