Oh i know you were, just keep your options open when you enlist. Pounding the ground is needed as well as installing the toys and watching from afar.

Yep, Without the toys the boys would get slaughtered

It's part of the reason grunts are so admired for the courage involved, e.g., opening of 'Saving Private Ryan.'

IMO, one of, if not the finest war movie ever put to film.

I liked it a lot. I did like the Green Berets also.

It’s a really good movie for sure. I think the very beginning and the very end should be required watching for everyone. I had the chance to visit Arlington a few years ago. I think that is absolutely sacred ground. I’ll never forget it.

I agree about it being sacred ground. If you ever get the chance, see the movie "Gardens of Stone,' about the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. It is an excellent 1987 movie with an all-star cast.

I’ll check it out for sure. I’m sure you’ve seen it, but if you haven’t I really like We Were Soldiers. My favorite movies are the ones about bravery and honor. War movies often portray those qualities better than a lot of other genres.

One really good movie that I saw
(and liked) was Hacksaw Ridge,
the true story of Desmond Doss,
a conscientious objector (on religious grounds) who fought hard to get into the Army, but refused to carry a gun ! He went
in (and into battle) as a combat medic, and wound up saving
about 75 lives in a battle on Okinawa referred to as Hacksaw Ridge in spite of having been wounded himself, for which he was later awarded the Medal of Honor ! GREAT true story !

'We Were Soldiers' is definitely a top-tier movie. Sam Elliot stood out in an all-star cast.

'Hacksaw Ridge' is another damn good-un
I believe Mel Gibson produced/directed it. He does good work on any movie with which he's associated.

I agree with both of you on both movies. Hacksaw Ridge was really excellent and really well done. Sam Elliott is always good, as is Mel Gibson. He may well be better at making movies than acting in them.
If the power would come back on from yesterday’s windstorm, I’d watch one of those two tonight.
