I can imagine an electric car for running around town maybe, but I'm still skeptical of them for long range driving. Now, theyre trying to get electric power into pickups. Well, maybe - for the guys who drive a pickup mostly because that's just what they drive, but who don't really haul stuff.
But there's no way I can fathom the idea of hitching a trailer on behind an electric truck and heading for someplace in the mountains 200 miles away. Not until Scotty gets off the enterprise and tells us where to get di-lithium crystals and how to use them!
The power is good, but the idea of "no emissions" is miss leading.. There is a generator someway making electricity for the charge.
Yeah - and if you've ever taken apart a well-used motor, they're DIRTY inside. And those batteries eventually give out and have to be disposed of/recycled.

Yes, I forsee that most folks who live in the city, will end up driving EV for ease of use, while country folks will continue to drive diesel and gas, for ease of use.
Range: 500+ miles. (with no cargo and a lone driver, on level ground. Or was it downhill?)
Range with a good sized 5th wheel on behind, a bed full of cargo and all the seats full while heading from Sacramento up to Lake Tahoe (>5000 feet elevation change): Not so much.
And working those batteries HARD shortens their life. A lot.
When my gas guzzler runs out of energy, time to refuel: ~5 minutes.
When an electric vehicle runs out of energy, time to refuel: Hope you aren't in a hurry!

Look online for all the new Electric Pickups coming in the next year. Wife has a Hybrid Rav and the power still amazes me. Read the reviews about the performance of the pickups and I think you too will be shocked. Just FYI. I have driven diesel pickups since they first came out in the 80’s but am seriously looking at the electric ones. I think Nickola has 5000 pre- orders for theirs and Ford will have their electric pickup out in 2021 also. The claims are for power better than the diesels with no emissions. I can’t wait to see the proof of that. Nickola is unveiling their Badger Pickup the first part of December in Arizona where they are building their new factory. My best buddy lives in Casa Grande and drives by the location every week and gives me updates. Time will tell. And no pollution - Wowwy Walter as the buddy from Az is always saying.

I bought the 6.2 GMC deisel back in '82. What a joke!!!!!!! That thing wouldn't pull the hat off my head but got great mileage without a load. The garage had it as much as I did for the first year (warranty) I moved to Colorado and brought it with me (mistake). Going over the passes it smoked like a smudgepot. A Banks would have cost me $5k so I got rid of it. I decided to let someone else be the guinnea pig from now on. So the electric pickup will have to wait til they can prove themselves. Have you seen the price of a new pickup these days??? Theyre way outa my price range. Oh well...........I'm mostly happey with my '06 Tundra.

Well, isn't that cute? That's not even what my kids used to call the old Chevy El Caminos " a truck car"...
The El Camino and the Ranchero were "Cowboy Cadillacs".

One more thought about electric vehicles: Ever summer when we get hot days, the grid is absolutely straining to meet the demand. There have even been 'brownouts'. What happens when we add a couple of hundred thousand electric vehicle chargers to the load on the grid?? The politicians might mandate charging at night only. (except for themselves, of course!)
Enquiring minds want to know!

Hadn’t thought about that but you’re right.

The top of the line with the specs as listed is $70,000.
A top of the line Ford or Chevy will run you more than that.
I like the looks of the Ford a whole lot more.

Yeah a while back, I saw an ad for “Denali Days”. I drive a Ford, but really like GMC trucks, so I did the whole build a truck thing on their website. I didn’t select the best of everything, I don’t much care about a lot of the fancy stuff they’ll put on a truck. I got done and they didn’t tell me the final price but they said my payments would be something like $981 a month for 84 months. When I regained consciousness, I closed the web page and got a new truck out of my thoughts forever.

Exactly! That’s over $82000. I don’t know how the average working person can afford a new truck.

Right? And it's nearly impossible to find a pickup with an 8 foot bed anymore, which is a requirement in my mind. Anything less might as well be a car. For years I drove a truck with a 12 foot long flat bed on it.
