Should be even shouldn't it.

Reel it off onto another reel and start over?

I am not certain but it looks like the spool has too much line. I suggest stripping off all and start over, but make sure your line is tied and starts at the rear of the spool. Also, do not fill your spool so full, stop perhaps 10 to 15 yard short of what is now showing on this reel. That would solve the problem in my opinion. Just Sayin...RJS

Hi Mr. Robert :)
We thought we read somewhere it should be at least 1/8"
below the reel. But it was for a bait caster. We think you
are correct :)

The front loading of the spool is caused by the lack of or too many shims or spacers (really washers) on the shaft of the spool. Unscrew the drag adjustment. Carefully pull the spool off. You will note that there are typically several washers on the shaft. In your case I would say you don’t have enough. Here’s the hard part. You will have to search for parts.
What’s happening is as you crank, the spool oscillates in and out. The travel of your spool is centered too far forward thus stacking the line forward. An additional washer or two will fix that.

Not 100% sure but i believe it is a washer in balance under the spool. Take it to a bait shop and they will advise much better.

It is possible that a plastic washer is missing from under the spool they should be one that’s looks kinda like a gear ⚙️ and a plastic washer on top of that.

I guess I should add that the point is you must remove or add spacers to move the center point of the spool travel forward (toward the tip of the rod).

Could it be the line is spinning along with the spool?

The missing parts make sense to me which means it is overlapping the front instead of the spool being centered on the throw ( distance it moves back and forth ) so it puts more on front. You could try refilling as OZ suggested. You can also look up a schematic of the model reel it is to see any parts needed. Ace Hardware has mega washers etc here where I live. If its just a simple little tiny ID washer you can get it or them at ACE maybe. A reel shop may have them too. A replacement reel would also be another solution too.

The washer was the answer. I found one on my cellar floor, but not in the area where I was switching spools, so I'm not sure if it's the right one. I stuck it in temporarily, until I can get a proper replacement, and it fixed the problem. Thanks guys!

Ditto. So many folks ask a question and then don’t let us know how it went.
