Looking into buying a new trolling motor what is the difference between a bow-mounted trolling motor for a Bass Boat and one made for a Pontoon party boat if any at all.

Regardless of their differences, where do you plan on controlling this motor? That will make all the difference int he world. Justr Sayin...RJS

There is remote controlled type there are some that connect like WiFi to your navigation. There are simple old types that are few hundred bucks. Sky is limit. I have heard the remote type are way cool. If I’m not mistaken Iowa Farmer May have a remote type. The real question is how much money you want to spend too

I just went and looked there is Bluetooth enabled ( remote controlled ) probably manually too if you really want to but idea is you can control the boat and fish but hands are free to fish. Under 600 bucks for 45 thrust. I have always wanted to set up a boat with solar panels and electric with gasoline for back up. Way less gas to buy. Free juice from sky. Solar panels block rain and sun like a canopy

I am looking at a MinnKota 112 LB thrust but it is for a Pontoon boat and have seen a few bad things from some about using a Pontoon setup on the front of a boat. I think those motor had the motor head turned around but I could be wrong and I do not understand why turning the motor head around would hurt, so I just need some good impute on this topic please.

I have a MinnKota with I-pilot. Wireless remote. I'd never go back to foot pedals again for my type of fishing.
If you like to work the shorelines and are constantly casting, you may prefer the foot pedal.

I would think if you are a bass fisherman in a bass boat, then a foot operated troller would make the most sense. Any hand held device will take away time and effort you could spend fishing. It should also be less expensive, I would expect. Just Sayin..RJS

Once you been around a lake or trail you like fishing once.....you don't do anything. It follows the trail on avionics you already have been on. if you want to make new ones then there will be more premade map trails. If you don't get a remote type you can not ever SET IT and FORGET IT and fish fish fish. Its only a little more anymore for remote types. If have gas engine for running fast why do you need so much thrust on your electric troller?

Jeremy my 70 lb Minn-Kota just will not do the job in the fast curent that I fish in and the swift current just take my boat werever it wants too even with a 70 lb thrust motor. A bigger trust trolling motor is my only hope as I just cannot get the hang of fishing while the current moves me backwards.

I think the main difference might be the shaft length for the motor. It's a long way to the water in a pontoon boat. Check with the manufacturer's web site.

The shaft for the pontoon motor is much longer. It would be in your way on a conventional boat.

Check out the Minn Kota Ulterra. It should strike your fancy.

I have the 112 lb. thrust minn kota ultrex with the I pilot link. I have used the remote I time. I was sitting in the rear fishing seat & could operate the trolling motor easily. I think the remote would be wonderful if a guy was running a trotline, limb lines or checking his jug lines. Since the remote works from any place on the boat it would be easy to follow the lines & by hitting the spot lock icon the boat would stay in place while you baited the lines or removed fish. I do not use my big boat for catfishing as my wife has warned me about getting fish slime on the carpet. I have a small "man boat" for catfishing. The shaft length of my 112 lb motor is 60 inches. The boat came from the factory with a 72 lb thrust 24 volt minn kota but I removed it & put the 112 lb on. I've honestly never turned the 24 volt motor on. It's in my barn & i need to put it on Craigslist to sell it. It also has a 60 inch shaft. I called a minn kota trolling motor repair shop & inquired about getting the shaft shortened so i could use it on my man boat. The guy told me it can be done on some motors but not that one. My luck.
