I’m going freshwater fishing with my cousin this week, but I‘ve always been saltwater my entire life. I have 3 salt water rods and 1 freshwater rod. It’s a river we’ll be fishing at, but could I use my saltwater rod if I wanted to, or does it strictly have to be my freshwater one? I bought these rubber-fake worms that my cousin recommended and he’s bringing trout dough. Is any size hook good? Or do I need something a bit bigger? Thanks!

Use what you are comfortable using there is no such thing as strictly fresh or salt water gear. what are y'all fishing for? If you don't know just take a little bit of everything from number 12 to about 4/0 just to be safe. If you are fishing a trout stream you need small hooks like 12 up to a 2.

Okay, I’ll bring a saltwater rod then. For the river we’re going to, we don’t really know which species to expect, but we’re mainly looking at trout and bass

Just a tip bring a few spinners and some jigs. If they are fished right they will both catch almost anything. just like some mepps, roostertails or panther martins along with some just basic curly tail grubs and jigheads.

All of this stuff is gibberish to me man. Should I really bring all this stuff? I’m just gonna be fishing for maybe an hour or two for fun. Originally, I was just gonna bring a saltwater rod, the line, a sea bass hook, and some rubber worm things 😂

Research where you’re going and bring lures or bait that matches what your target fish are eating.

Enjoy your hour or two. Thats fishing. If you have to catch fish - stay home.

I'd bring whatever the lightest set-up you have is. Yeah, get a couple of panther martins - trout and bass both like em. And bring some night crawlers. Pretty universal - not much that doesn't like a worm. Put it on a #2 or so hook below a split shot and throw it out and let it drift in the current. if you're only gonna fish for. a couple of hours really, leave the panther martins and just go with the crawlers. KISS.
