Flatheads love live bait and they really love small blue gills. Like most catfish they will hit a lot of
different bait but the big ones like live bait. Flatheads are getting hard to find I don't know why
I'll get a couple a year that's it. Nothing better than the meat off of a flatheads belly it's the consistency of
a very tender pork chop Love it.

Bangtwister: Welcome to the Stages. Good advice here, and a lot of jokes, too. For Catfishermen, fish at night, with a lot of patience and live bait, if you can get it, but check and see if the perch, or sun fish are legal to use for bait in your state. Some states outlaw their use as bait. Just Sayin...RJS

Welcome to the Forum, Bang. I believe you are the first member from Mpls., MN. That seems strange doesn't it? Not a lot of Gophers on the Forum.

Welcome BT. You live in the city of my birth. Left town before memory kicked in but visited my grandmother up there most years. Fished at Spirit Lake up around Aiken. Good memories about those trips. Sure miss Grandmas cooking too. You betcha!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! yes I wish I could use bluegills but not in this state, I can use bullheads and they are a strong bait but then I gotta go fishing before I go fishing, and them things like to get gut hooked, little pigs I tell you, so I use live decoy suckers if the bait store has them,(I have to arm wrestle them to get them on the hook....Big) that's what I caught the 18 lb on, and that was at night behind a bridge pillar just south of the 35w bridge, but they closed the locks at the upper st Anthony falls due to Asian carp,(no more Barges, hope the river stays deep enough) so I'm hunting the river up above. nice pic of that channel cat, what did it weigh ? thanks again to all the reply's
