Plumbob, I don't know much about rays, but large skate are a common by-catch when halibut fishing with cut herring chunks in Alaska. I have heard their wings are quite good. Apparently after several attempts, I am cleaning them wrong or cooking them wrong. My next attempt will be to skin them on sight and place in ice like I do sharks. I am always open to suggestions.
Can't help you there bapabear, if i can't get my hook back i cut the line and off they go. I have seen on here that folks do eat them and how to prepare them, if you are really curious post a question on the main.

The past 3 days fish have been knocking the full size spook, black frog and 130 whopper plopper out of the water but not hooking up. Today, I put a spitโn image jr by Heddon on and had three solid fish within an hour.
The dog days of summer are here, making for a tough bite.
After the top water died I went to 10โ plum power worm on a 5/16 shakyhead and caught a few more keepers way up under docks with brush just inside main lake points before calling it a day.
Good bass fishing day Eyecrosser. I loved fishing in Mo. I fished Town Lake in Springfield with my grandfather. I caught my first bass throwing flies. I went back several times as I got older and fished Table Rock. I miss fishing there. Itโs great memories.

Nice fishing. Thanks for the narrative and the picture.

Good luck Ff. Will be interested to hear about your experience there
Thanks bric, I'm back. So 1st the weather, the only thing they got right was the wind speed, all of 15/25. But it started before dawn, the sun never came out up there (NE corner) maybe 75-78 with sprinkles. I love the lake,4or5 islands, some steep dropoffs on the east side, some nice shallows on the west side, some nice main lake points, clean bottom,W/sand,gravel,and rock. Minimal weeds, only a few docks. The ramp is ok,sheltered, but only parking for 15 trailers but more parking is 500yards back down the road. I will definitely go back there, when the weather is nicer, aluminum boats are tough in the wind. Fishing was rough in the conditions, got 2 dink Largemouth,3/4lb bluegill,and......wait for it
One 3lb Smallmouth, made my day!

Well you are a bass man, lol. Iโm glad you like the place and I would say you did great especially first time there. Thanks for sharing. I have not fished for bass too much, but would love too. Caught some smallmouth in Maine 2018, with a guide on the Penobscot River.

There will definitely be a return trip, probably in the fall. Nice smalljaw bric. I've heard the Penobscot was good for smallies, but I've never fished it.

Atta boy Fred! That sounded like smallmouth water to me. Do you think there are any walleyes in there?
Way to go Fred. Nice SM. Sounds like a good lake.

Yeah OJ, It's a "Walleye lake " as well as a "Bass Management Lake ". They also stock it with Rainbows /Browns. The lake has probably the best conditions of any lake I've ever fished in the state. The main drawback is it's in a state park so there's no access until the park opens @8am and it closes @6pm, for this season anyway, due to the virus. The website says 6am but it's last year's update. I will definitely be going there more,as it's about the same distance from me as several other places I go. And the 10mph speed limit means no Waterskiers or Jetskis! YeeHa!!!

Thanks Grip, very promising place. I don't know why I've never tried it before.

Nice job Eye, I'm gonna try a "new"lake tomorrow morning. Nice quiet 10mph max place. Also supposed to be low weed, clean bottom conditions. It's the former home of our state Largemouth record fish,12lb 14oz. Of course it was caught in 1961, so that doesn't mean much, but we'll see. Temperature supposed to be low to mid 80s,but they are calling for wind 15/25.
If you going to eat them, cut the first one and see what's in their belly. Will give you a clue as to what they are eating and you can adjust your baits to match their food. Good luck FF!
