The past 3 days fish have been knocking the full size spook, black frog and 130 whopper plopper out of the water but not hooking up. Today, I put a spit’n image jr by Heddon on and had three solid fish within an hour.
The dog days of summer are here, making for a tough bite.
After the top water died I went to 10” plum power worm on a 5/16 shakyhead and caught a few more keepers way up under docks with brush just inside main lake points before calling it a day.

Catching is always nice of course, but top water is in a class all its own. Especially when they break water full body. Nice going Ec.

Nice job Eye, I'm gonna try a "new"lake tomorrow morning. Nice quiet 10mph max place. Also supposed to be low weed, clean bottom conditions. It's the former home of our state Largemouth record fish,12lb 14oz. Of course it was caught in 1961, so that doesn't mean much, but we'll see. Temperature supposed to be low to mid 80s,but they are calling for wind 15/25.

Snag him or actually catch him. Most of my skate catches are from snagging a wing? Rare to get a bite.

Plumbob, I don't know much about rays, but large skate are a common by-catch when halibut fishing with cut herring chunks in Alaska. I have heard their wings are quite good. Apparently after several attempts, I am cleaning them wrong or cooking them wrong. My next attempt will be to skin them on sight and place in ice like I do sharks. I am always open to suggestions.
