Want to give carp a try
Alright, so I've never gotten a carp but have landed a buffalo (unintentionally).
I have a decent catfish setup and want to know if there is any reason a catfish setup would be ill-advised for carp?

It'll work, no problems! I use a basic spinning rod for carp in Australia.

My go to rig is a running sinker, down to a swivel onto about a 1ft 8lb Fluorocarbon leader with a 2/0 J hook or Suicide Hook loaded with canned corn kernels.
I go big!
Smallest carp over the last month, in the middle of winter has been 45cm, about 5-6lb. Largest has been 13lb

Nice. I hear they can give a nice fight and they are plentiful along with buffalo where I like to go.
I'll have to get rigged up when it cools off a bit and give it a go.

They're more active in summer, in warmer weather.

But how warm? We average 100°F right now during the day. Nights and mornings are 80ish

Yeah, they'll bite, but if you can fish late afternoon early evening you should do better.
Fish will hang out under trees etc. But they'll probably follow similar feeding habits to the local cats & buffalo.
I used to catch them as bycatch to Murray Cod, on live shrimp. But recently have been targeting them on Corn. Australian summers are up at that 110f

Fantastic. I hear and see them all night but have targeted them.
Next time I go out I may set 1 rod for cats and 1 for carp.
Surely if one isn't biting then the other is

We use to fish into the night for them, light a camp fire etc... But the bite can be pretty good during the day as well.
Watch the weather maps, when low pressure fronts come in, the fish will fire up. Even if it's 100+ but a low is coming that afternoon, get on the water. They'll probably be hanging out under any shade offered by trees etc.

Try a double corn and bait up around it with a pellet mix that should work or pm me and I can show you some others

If it’s legal , chum with a few good hands full of corn. Just throw it out where you are going to be fishing. For best results if your fishing spot is close to you chum for a few days.

Ya it will they will go for a drop shot almost always
I just catfish and use peanut butter and bread dough ball. catch carp quite often. Make peanut butter sandwich walk outside and just start crumbling in your hands and keep working it tearing it apart and working it to get the peanut butter all through everything makes great dough ball. peanut oil drawers them Right In
Buy a box of Wheaties, do they still sell Wheaties. Make a dough ball. Use a no. 8 or 10 Trimble hook. Can fish with a small bobber or on bottom. Use light rod for more fun. Really fun on ultra lite.
