Well I did a little (very little) research on Hendryx reels and seems I was incorrect (imagine that) and it was not manufactured in England, the A. B. Hendryx Company was out of New Haven Connecticut. You'll have to take it from there. But what kind of information were you looking for?

Hey Paul. I also have a daughter born on April 4th, 1980. I guess it's just one more thing we have in common.

I don't own one, I found one for sale on eBay. I don't remember what they were asking for it, but I seem to recall less than 100 dollars was being bid at the time. So the value would be determined by the rarity of the particular one you have and how badly a collector wanted it. If you really wanted to sell it, which I assume you don't, you would have to do your homework.

Are you saying we are 'vintage material'. I know I am, can't and will not speak for the others.
If you haven't been fly fishing, you should do it. Even one that starts today can be catching fish, and casting tomorrow. Not far, but far enough to catch.

You could even use that vintage Hendryx you have there. The only fear would be of losing it or having it stolen - the "old" fly reels, like todays more modern "click and pawl" reels did not have elaborate drag systems and were used primarily just to store the fly line and serve as an aid in picking it up off the ground or out of a basket. You fight the fish with the rod and your hands, not the reel. You should try it, it's not hard, it's just a different way of presenting bait to the fishies.

I assume ur thumb would be used as tension on the reel..since there's no release button..I may try in the creek by my house..it's a beautiful spot and it's where I catch bluegill and chubs..most bait..if I do..I'll post a short video..hope it's not a train wreck..lol

Watch a couple of videos on YouTube of how to cast a fly line then go out and practice. The drag on these older reels and the newer click and pawls is created with the palm of your hand. In fact it's called palming. And yes you can use your fingers too. You need to let the rod do most of the work. Can be a lot of fun. Can be a real pain too with larger fish. Stick to the little ones if you can while you're learning.

If that was directed at me, my eye is not that good. I've looked several times now and I still don't see it. I just got lucky.
