The fins give it away for me. It's a squawfish..
Idaho rivers feed to Columbia.

They are called Snake Heads here in Maryland. Kill if caught. They do walk on land to go from one water to another. Honest look them up. Good eating so I'm told.

Been catching those for years here in Oregon.
Dad taught us to throw them on the bank back in the 70s. Need to get them out of the river system. They will eat salmon and steelhead smolt. Have been an issue in our river system for years!

I think you are right. It’s hard to tell sometimes and as you can see I don’t handle fish properly yet... I did manage to release this one.

FYI If it is a Northern Pike Minnow, it is native to the PNW. In the lower stretch of the Columbia and Snake BPA has a bounty on them because they prey on Salmon smolts, not because they aren’t supposed to be here. The idea is to reduce their number, not eliminate them. Top fishermen make upwards of 100k a year catching them.

Still looks like the Bull trout - caught a few in Priest Lake when I lived there. Never heard of or saw the pike minnow in Priest Lake but that was 10 years ago - just saying for what its worth - all I have to say about it.

Definitely a pike minnow!! And they’re right, super nuisance!! They are native to the PNW. Definitely not an endangered bull trout.

Here’s a bowfin. Look at the dorsal fin
