Does everyone know what a crappie house is? No it's not where crappie live. You do hope to find them there though.
It's what we in Texas call a flotin dock that has a roof over it and a big hole in the middle for people to fish in. They're usually maybe 30 to 40 feet square and they have lights on them so you can fish at night on them. Very popular on a lot of lakes in Texas.
Well, one of my favorite ways to fish there if the shad show up is to take a #1 or #2 treble hook with no weight on it and tie it to your line. You let it sink down below the shad several feet and then you start jerkin it through the water until you hook a shad. Then you reel in and put a small split shot just big enough to weight the shad down some. Don't reposition your hook, just leave it where it is and let the shad swim. Drop it down below the shad, say 10 to 15 feet max maybe, and let it swim around and wait for a big bass to come along and eat it. It works nearly every time.
I've never seen a crappie house out here in Cal. They prolly have them on some of the lakes but I've never fished any of them out here.
Some people just call it a fishin dock or something else . But in Texas everbody knows what a crappie house is.
Now y'all do too. Just Sayin.

I’ll have to check the regulations on that one...

Around here they are used in the winter and are called heated docks.

I figgered they had different names from different places. A lot of them in Texas are even enclosed so they are warm inside during the winter. They have benches and a pipe railing around the fishin hole. Really nice especially for the people who don't have a boat to be able to get away from the shore.

They're probably illegal in California. Have you ever gone out here and targeted just crappie? I have not. I've caught em, but it was always by accident, not cause I was fishin for em. Used to know a pastor in San Diego who would go to El Capitan Reservoir and catch hundreds of em - then have a big fish fry over at his church. I remember he used a Mitchell 300 on a 9ft 3wt fly rod and yellow mister twister grubs.

I have gone out to go bass fishin and ended up crappie fishin cause they were bitin. Went to Clear Lake once and ended up crappie fishin and we caught 4 bout 2 pounds apiece and then the guy I was with said he needed to go cause he had a poker game he had to go to. The fishin was great and we just left. I drove all the way up there just to take him fishin cause he'd never really been fishin before. I never offer to take him fishin again.

Yeah, some folks just don't get it. I used to fish with a guy from work who would take us out on the Feather River in his boat. When you went with him you needed to set your mind beforehand that you were going to be out there most of the day and the night, cause he was stayin til HE was ready to go, which was generally about 3 or 4 in the morning. Bitin or not.

I generally always let the people I go with decide when they want to leave for home. That way they are more apt to want to go again if they know they can leave whenever instead of havin to stay out all day or night.
As for me, however. Whenever I go fishin, that is my activity for the day. If we decide to stay out all day, that's fine. If we get out there and the weather turns bad, the fish aren't bitin or whatever reason and we want to come home right away that's fine too. BUT, I don't come home or like to because I have something else I have to do or someplace I have to go. The days I go fishin or huntin, that's what I got planned to do for that day and nothing else.

since when did snagging be sporting, even for minnows or chubs? I know from seeing individuals use that form of "fishing" that its not legal and a lot of missed strikes mean injured fish that dont recover,,meaning wasted resources and its illegal as hell. Did i mention its illegal to snag?

Actually, It depends on where you are and what you are tryin to snag. AND the hooks you are tryin to snag with. So there are variables to snagging.
I agree about snagging sport fish but not necessarily bait fish. Just Sayin.

to be honest with you, to me a fish is a fish...whether its two inches long or twenty two pounds. Only way i would concur with snagging is if it were to eliminate asian carp or another invasive species that doesnt belong in the local waters.
