I wash up on the beach by the hundreds at times in San Diego. I'm about 3 or 4 inches long.
If it wasn't in the salt I'd say a crawdad, But some kind of shrimp.

By the way, Zoey was right with RTC.
Just watched the You Tube from the Monterey Aquarium, on this crab. Very informative. It was dated 1 year ago, so I wonder if Larry's query is about current conditions ? As dry as northern California and southern Oregon have been, we could use a good El Nino....we currently have very little snowpack left, which spells danger for the fire season and even stream and river flows that keep our fish healthy. Already saw late and somewhat sketchy returns of steelhead and salmon this season, because of low flows. Don't wish for that to happen next year....pray for us.... humidity is at 30%, here at noon. Likely to be 20% or even less by sunset. Smokey the Bear tries, but he needs help from Mother Nature !

I believe that the crabs have shown up recently.
I only see reports from the local news and the other site that I go to.
We are pretty much in fire danger every year.
Last time we had a big fire close to us was years backand we could see the fire on top of the ridge a few miles north of us and we had to evacuate.
Knock on wood, no big fires thus far this year, but yeah... it's a yearly worry. Just kinda sad to see such low flows, this early. We're sitting on mid to late August #'s.
Keep an eye on those El Nino clues, not sure if there's a consensus on what's happening this year, at least not with the local prognosticators...lol.

Yes it is a Krill mostly eaten by Sea Lions and is in every Ocean known as a fish not a shrimp They are harvest for the Krill oil mostly People do eat them only if they can find them it is a great source of food for whales, seals, ice fish, and penguins.
Kind of looks like a Crawdad
Red Pelagic Crabs, wash up on west coast shores on occasion? Sometimes called Tuna Crabs.
