Castaic lures

Years ago, maybe like 25 or so, lifelike lures that resembled crappie, bluegill, and shad were market by a company named Castaic.

I came across them the other day and remembered that they looked like the real thing, but were practically impossible to get them to run straight and true like a live bait fish. Has any body had experience with them?

I have a few of bluegill and crappie in 2 different sizes, tried them but only once did I catch a bass on it. Mine seem to swim ok as long as keeping the pace down, experiment different speeds and watch how it moves

Yes, Ronnie, I agree. Any increase in the speed of the lure will cause it swim on its side etc. I try most of my lures in the little upright pool we have to see how they perform. I adjusted the eye of the lure to different position and used different lines; to no avail. They look like the real thing. I guess its another one of those "fisherman got caught" incidents.

What type of brand/hook/style are you using? What type of fishing line? How are you hooking the lure?

Its a treble hook mounted on the bottom side of the Lure. Not sure of the brand. I have tried 12 # and 17# mono. And 10# Sunline FC. I think the lure just was not tested thoroughly before putting it on the market. There is an eye at the nose of the fish lure that yo tie on to.

Direct tie. The hook about a #4 is located right behind the lip. It runs about 4-6 feet deep.

I don't know how to show picture on this forum. I'll have to check on that.

Might try a snap clip to see how that runs.
