I hear ya. I have to be careful of how much I buy also. Sue doesn't have a problem with me goin fishin when I want to but she thinks I have enough tackle and gear to open my own store so have to be careful when acquiring more.

I looked up the new model Curado 200. There are three retrieve ratios being produced. How does the ratio affect fishing. That specification was never an issue form me. Turn the crank faster or slower to get to the pace I want. Any comments on what’s best for what. If I am spending $150 or more I’d like to get it right. Thanks

Well, personally I would get the fastest retrieve they offer. You can always slow down your retrieve but you can't make it go faster than as fast as you can turn the handle. Therefore, with the faster retrieve it gives you more options. Like you said, you can always slow down your retrieve as slow as you want. Just Sayin.

Does the high ratio affect retrieve when hauling in a bigger fish?

If you get a fish on the line it is imperative that you keep a tight line. When reelin in a fish, specially big fish, if they start makin a run straight at the boat it is nice to have a fast retrieve ratio so you can keep up with the fish and maintain a tight line.

Okay, now we’re talking. I have lost a few charging in at the dock and jumping right at me. Thanks

I think DC uses some kind of microprocessor. I’ve read sampling 1000 times a second to adjust the brake. Batteries? The Curado 200 is still mechanical. I think.

IDK much about either one. I just know that the Curado is suppose to be a good reel and would like to get one someday for my bass fishin.

My thoughts on gear ratio:

Certain baits are easier to fish with certain gear ratios, burning rattle traps over grass or running a buzz bait are easier with a faster gear ratio, IMO crankbaits and spinnerbaits are more effective at a slower gear ratio, you lose cranking power as your reel speeds increase. If you have to think about your turning the handle all day, that’s very fatiguing, if I had to pick one gear ratio for everything it would be a 6.3:1 gear ratio

Thank you. I need to see what I have been using also. I think they are probably all about 5 to 6.
