You’re gonna need to be a bit more specific. Happy to help just provide some context.

Like what should i be more specific on? Im somewhat new to fishing although i have been fishing a lil while just not much. And the only thing i truly know is just put a rig and weight and hook on my rod and put bait and cast that's all i know...

Where are you fishing? What do you usually use for bait? In general what gear do you have? What do folks around there typically catch, if you know. That sort of thing. Then we can start to give you some recommendations. :)

I have some rigs like double drop, and some eagle claw ocean hooks, and a Shakespeare Catch More Fish Surf/Pier M Spinning Rod and Reel Combo rod, and a tiger ocean rod. And that's pretty much it and in terms of location, myrtle beach sc... and people catch croakers and blacktip sharks and spots... and use shrimp and squid typically as bait...

Thank you that’s helpful. Alright so as the other guy mentioned the short is big bait, big gear = big fish.

I would take your heavier setup, and use either a bank or pyramid sinker and cast with a large bait. I use a fish finder rig when the surf isn’t too bad but you could experiment.

If you’re going after sharks, I’d recommend pieces of cut up local fish. Croaker, blue runner, grunts, anything like that will do. You want to use circle hooks, you could get away with heavy mono leader for smaller sharks like bonnet heads and some black tips, but you want to get into wire territory and cable the heavier you go.

I would personally try out some new bait. If you have fresh shrimp that’s always good for croakers, drum, etc. I find squid is good to catch bait fish with. Cut up fresh local fish is usually good. Make sure to use bigger hooks and a heavier mono leader.

Hope this makes sense. I’m working as I write this. Let me know whatever questions you have.

Also great eating fish. I’ve caught flounder on shrimp and squid. There aren’t too many flounder down here where I am though so I will defer to someone who targets them more on that one. I recommend you take a trip to the pier if you can and walk around and see what folks are using.

Also on that make sure to look up all relevant regulations for fish. It’ll save you a big fine and you’ll be doing right by the ocean.

Big fish eat little fish. Work your way up. Start with a sabiki rig to catch little fish and take it from there

I’ll second the Sabiki rig. You mention spots and sharks. NC not too far from you, we catch both off the pier. I use 7’6 Ugly Stick with 3000 reel and Sabiki rig. Tip the hooks with Fishbite bloodworm (spots love it) Then I have 10ft Beachcomber rod with Penn Battle 5000. Live bait rig or double drop rig to catch bigger fish. What bites is determined by what’s down there. Pay attention to your Sabiki, my buddy Using my pole damn near lost it. A big fish ate a little fish off of it. Bit the rig in half. Good luck.

jiggle a sabiki rig to catch medium or larger bait fish.
hook the bait fish through the upper back about 8 feet below a huge bobber (usually orange).
throw it off the pier as far as possible with wind at your back [you want to keep the bobber out away from pier. sometimes there's a current that will draw the bobber back to the pier so get on the other side or the very end of the pier to keep the bobber away from the pylons]
if the bait fish is too small it will not be able to pull the bobber around.
you can adjust the depth of the live bait by either switching to a slip bobber and a jig hook or casting with more leader if you have a longer pole.
9 foot pole should be good, but the longer the better.
be sure to use a reel that can take salt water.

First off, there are winter flounder and what many people call "summer flounder" which are fluke. They are different species fished at different times or year in a different way with different types of bait and vastly differen laws. There are many YouTube videos you can check out.. I suggest that you start with the John Skinner series. Good luck.
