Spotted Bass have a broken uneven lateral line a large mouth has a straight unbroken lateral line. If the light is right you can see the dark spots on its back.

The most sure way to tell the difference is that spotted bass have a tooth patch on it's tongue.

On the spotted {Kentucky} bass the mouth does not extend passed the rear edge of eye.
The 2nd dorsal fines are clearly connected.
There is a rough spot on the tongue
Hope this helps out..

Okay. So I got up before noon to fish today per other posts and it worked. The comparison pictures are great. Real world they don’t pose as well. I catch and release most of the time. Take a quick picture and back in the water. Both of theses had smooth tongues. What do think they are?

Smooth tongue should rule out spotted or Kentucky. Thanks.
