What is a good cooler for fishing? I want it to be wheeled, the two I have in my mind are the Yeti tundra haul(55qt)(360$) vs the fatboy 70qt wheeled(260$). i believe either would fit my needs size wise. But how good is yeti compared, is it worth the extra money? I just want a wheeled, roto-molded cooler to store drinks and fish I catch. Thanks in advance!

If it’s just a day or two of use, the ability to hold ice won’t be as important. Any roto-molded cooler with decent reviews and a good company to back it up should be fine.

You can also buy wheel kits if you find a cheaper option that doesn’t come with wheels.

I’ve had the yeti tundra 45 and it’s awesome. If you’re looking for performance then yeti is the way to go. But if you are going on small outing (less then 2 days) just go with any cooler really.

Thank you! For the extra 100$ i might just go tundra as the 70qt is probably overkill for what i need

On that note always go a little small unless you’ve got the space for the bigger sizes. They get heavy when full of drinks/food.

The fancy ones that keep ice longer are smaller inside because of insulation. I am happy with the not so expensive types that hold ice for 5 days.. not yeti. We go in over 100F for 5 days and have ice at end of trip. Its all about chilling what is in it... before its put in it. Freeze what you can before its put in it. All the ice (is water) will make it heavy. The less air the longer it will keep ice. The less its opened mid day in the heat th longer it keeps ice. The more shade and less direct sun helps the most.

You don't need a yeti unless you want to keep something cold for a week or so. They are superb coolers, but really that's overkill for going out on a boat for a day or so. Buy a Coleman and spend the money you're gonna save on something else, like a new rod or reel.

"I just want a wheeled, roto-molded cooler to store drinks and fish I catch. Thanks in advance!"

In my opinion, you do NOT want to do the above. Maybe go with a very large wheeled cooler and then put a smaller cooler on top strapped down.

I can tell ya from many experiences going on week long fly in fishing trips to Canada. We learned pretty quickly to string up the walleyes and maybe a Northern or two and hang them from the side of the boat. Water up there is pretty cold.

When I say............"learned pretty quickly", I'm talking about the MISTAKE of putting those fish in the cooler where our day long supply of beers were.

Put your lips on a beer can that has been sitting in the same cooler as some fish, you may find out it's not too tasty.

Been there..............done that.

Here is the long story as to my handle. When I was a kid, some of my friends had a motorscooter and with the exception of one that was an Allstate as I recall, the others were Cushmans.

Cushmans were made in Lincoln, Nebraska. I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. At around age 14 or so, one of my buddies wanted to sell his Cushman and I really wanted to buy it. Dad would not go for it. So it never happened.

Fast forward to the 70's, CB Radios become the "big deal " to have. I had one in my truck and also my wifes car. Now to be "legal", you were supposed to create a "handle" that would identify you on the air. I chose to go with motorscooter as my CB handle back in those days. I guess cause I never did get over the fact that I never got to own one.

Fast forward again............Somewhere in the late 80's or so, many folks were getting on the internet and that required a (userid). It seemed that you needed at least 8 characters.......bottom line, I abbreviated my old CB handle to Moscooter...................

So, on some Harley forums, I am known as Mo.............and others seem to refer to me as Scoot.

Take your pick...........

You now have the story.
