These are most of my active fly boxes.

Mike, if you caught a fish with each of those flys you would have a belly full.

Question? Why are flies kept and stored in small boxes? Why not a couple of large ones?

Because everything you want to use, once in the water, basically needs to be carried in your vest, thus the small boxes. Plus, if you drop one, you only lose a few of your flies.

Gotcha. Forgot about the vest being your tackle box.

There are programs in all 50 states and Europe. They serve approximately 10k disabled Veterans, male and female. Check their website for information and a program near you. Your fly tying ability could be a big help!

Are you familiar with this area and where to go? That's a long ways for you to go.
You should try to come over to Stonyford and fish East Park Res with us next time I'm over there. Or maybe we could fish Black Butte. Let me know what you think. Or I'd love to fish the coast if you want to.

That sounds good too. I haven't bent the coast for almost 4 years now since I moved to the mountains so I thought a trip to the coast for perch would be fun. Spirit wants to go too so we can have a fishin' party. Any trip would be fun and we can compare fishing methods.

Why does the system mess up my spelling or am I just getting old? It should read "I haven't BEEN to the coast ...

Hey Mr. Twister I think Saw answered pretty well. Also many of the flies are smaller than conventional lures so the smaller boxes keep them in order and from getting tangled up with each other. Some are very tiny like the ones in the box in the center. These are midges and micro-mays size 16 down to size 22. Also I organize them by fly type and target species. The box in the upper left is my "Bugger Box". It contains Wooly Buggers, variations and leech patterns. The box in the upper right contains salmon and steelhead patterns.

Yes I've heard of Project Healing Waters. I subscribe to the Fishing Network on my SAT TV and many of the shows feature and help our veterans through fishing programs. I used to work with my local fly fishing club on these projects until the VIRUS hit.

Hi Fly Guy. I figured you would pop up. I have a pretty big belly so need lots of flies - LOL. Seriously I'm a very prolific tier and have been doing this for over forty years. Also I sell my flies at my online store for fishing and display so I get lots of practice. I am currently filling a special order of saltwater flies for a repeat client.

We can all talk and see if we can come up with a place where to go and where to meet.

My old fishing buddy who lives in the Eureka area said big Red-tailed perch run around the mouth of Humbolt Bay and would be a good target!

When i's there about a month ago I was talking to an old boy who shared a lot of information with me (he bout talked my leg off). He also shared his sand crabs. We both got driven off by the wind, but we both gave it a shot. Have you ever fly fished for perch? I have not, but I watched a video on YouTube about it. They were using 5wt's. I got one of those - set up for mono rigging right now, but that could change very quickly. What d'ya think?

Have you heard of Project Healing Waters, Flyfishing? Teaches disabled Veterans to fly fish, build their own rod and tie flies. Great program always looking for volunteers to teach.

I would gladly teach fly tieing to a fellow vet or two after the Covid thing passes in the Blaine Washington area, although I only have two extra vices. I feel very comfortable working with vets, as a retired president of the local chapter of "Combat Veterans International". That being said, I do little actual trout fishing except trolling as my stream walking days are over due to age and health.
