Is it a weird Bluegill? Caught several like these at a small lake in Colorado.

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen a sunfish quite like that! I feel like your right and it's a bluegill. The pattern varies depending on water hardness and diet and that fish is small and probably young which could be why the pattern is not very visible.

Just never seen a bluegill like this, even juvenile. No one at the lake was completely sure what kind it was either, we just don't have them look like this here often I guess.

Just a bluegill, nothing too unusual. They lose the bright red/orange colors after they are done spawning

It looks like a very young green sunfish to me. But what do I know. I don't have any bluegill in my pond.

I think that one is a flier, a member of sunfish

The female sunfish don’t have the brilliant colors that the males do.

It's a pretty little fish. It's pretty little and it's a fish.

Up in Massachusetts; they used to call any variety of what I generally refer to as "pan-fish", as "Kibbies" ... If you were in New England, you'd have caught yourself "a kibby".
