Went down to a friends cabin on the Mississippi in Clayton Iowa (Right across the river from Prairie du chien in wisconsin) His cabin is 170 years old!?
BEAUTIFUL spot. The view is from the scenic overlook at the State Park of Pike's Peak ( yes, Lewis and Clark discovered AND named this one too) of the Mississippi with Prairie du chien in the background.
Caught some Smallies and nice Walleyes - this was the smallest at 21.5 inches
( can you imagine this place with Fall colors?!)

Nice. Fun to catch. Being a former cheesehead, Prairie du chien area is gorgeous. A lot of calendars in WI, will show that area with a picture in the fall along with the Door County peninsula.

Been down the road that follows the mississippi through that area several times & my favorite was winter. One small town feeds the eagles which are plentiful along there. Some really good burgers & cheese curds served along that road & I always enjoyed stopping in the cabela's in Prairie du chine. Another thing I enjoyed in the winter was all the people ice fishing. Tents, toboggan, ATV's & all having a good time. Ice fishing is just something that doesn't happen here in Oklahoma.

Bottom - Some of those ice shanties would put people's homes to shame. People drag them out on the ice with their car or truck. Some are equipped with TVs, stereo, carpeted except for the hole to drop the line through, wood burning stoves. Not making this up. Never got into it myself but a lot of cheeseheads are.

G I've seen trailer shanties on TV. They have "air ride"suspension, they tow 'em out, drop the air ride, open a couple hatches and drill their holes. Got tv,heat, fridge, stove, microwave and bathroom. Freaking hotel on the ice. Oh and a genset for power. That's roughing it, eh?

You got it Fred. When consuming large amounts of alcoholic beverages in the middle of January in WI, one most be prepared. You might even catch fish.

True. Of course sometimes they don't get the shanties off the ice quick enough during a thaw. They end up in the lake. Vehicles too. Real pricey to get them pulled out.

Yep I have watched a lot of videos on utube.

Could get very expensive.

Lot of nice shanties and vehicles have taken a dip.
