Eating deer or elk from a high fence property is no better than eating beef from a feed lot. They’re given growth hormones and pesticides to achieve their massive horn growth. Plus not allowed in record books anyway. Most places like that are like shooting beef in a coral. We have a high fence elk ranch here and the yearling bulls have antlers with 4 points or better and score in the high 200s. The three year old bulls are over 350 and some over 400. Poor things can barely pack their antlers around they’re so big. Plus not very uniform. Don’t taste a bit like wild elk and people have to be careful they don’t get run over by them because they are so used to people. The only thing that scares them is a 4 wheeler or side by side because they chase em with them to make em kinda scared like it’s a real hunt or something. The bigger bulls get turned out of the feed lot just ahead of hunting time. Not hunting season but hunting time. Then the remaining ones are rounded back up and put back in the feed lot till next hunting time. They’re grain fed and pumped full of unhealthy growth supplements.
