It would be great to be back there now knowing what you know today. I know I would have bought some Apple stock in 1976, but I probably would have been dead by 1976. It is what it is! So, be it!

Hot water tank was plumbed to kitchen stove to get the water hot. And don't forget "Dibs". Dad took a wind up mechanism out of an old Gramophone and made me a logging donkey. 6 volt car batteries were the standard. Dynaflow transmission. Car battery powered home radios. crank to start car engine. OOOGA. Suicide steering wheel knob. No seat belts. Ice Boxes.

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,, as long as you brought the Dr. game up Mr. T., and this is a very well keep secret. We lived in a small community, called Fairwater, there were about 5 families in about a mile stretch of road. The neighbor girl across the road was marrying Cecil, who lived about a mile up the road. She was I8 - 20, I don't know. Anyway, she wanted to "practice" being married. I was 7, maybe 8 and had no idea of what was going happen or what to do. She said, "I'll show you" and that she did. I think there is a law against that now, but we did "practice" a few times after that and then she got married. That's life!

The outhouse faced the creek so we watch the guys fishing. One day a skunk walked by, after that, I closed the door. My brother and I would always pee out the upstairs window until the screen started to rust where we peed, the old man talked to us by hand, we got the message.

You made me laugh, F.G. I remember scraping frost off those upstairs bedroom windows many times on those long cold northern Wisconsin winter mornings.

those were the days when

people actually talked to each other

we had it all and didn't realize it

do you remember"double dog dare"?

all the girls had ugly gym clothes

it took three minutes for the tv to warm up

no one owned a purebred dog

a quarter was an excellent allowance

you would stoop to pick up a penny in the gutter

you got your windshield cleaned, your oil checked, tires checked and gas pumped without asking, and all for free.and you even got trading stamps

laundry detergent had free glasses ,dishes or towels inside the box

they said they would keep kids back a grade if they failed--and they actually did it

a 57 chevy was every ones dream car--to cruise,peel out,lay rubber,or street race

young people went steady

lying on your back in the grass with your friends saying things like--"that cloud looks like a"--

playing ball with no adults around to make up rules

stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals, because no one then tried to poison perfect strangers

and with all our progress don't you wish, just once, that you could step back in time and savor the slower pace, and share it with the children of today

kids actually had to be selected to play on organized baseball or football teams

no one got trophys or awards just for competing

candy cigarettes, wax miniature coke bottles with colored sugar water inside,

party lines,pea shooters,78 rpm records,green stamps,mimeograph paper

do you remember when decisions were made by "eeny-meeny-miney-moe"?

mistakes were corrected by uttering "do over"

race issues meant who was the fastest runner

catching fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening

it wasn't odd to have more than one best friend

Saturday morning cartoons weren't 30 minute commercials for action figures

"olly olly action free" made perfect sense

spinning around getting dizzy and falling down was amusement

the worst embarrassment was being picked last for a sandlot team

war--was a card game

taking drugs meant orange flavored chewable aspirin

water balloons were a weapon

I am sharing this with you today because a friend "double dog dared "me to

remember the perfect age is somewhere between old enough to know better and too young to care

do you remember Howdy Doody,Peanut Gallery,The Lone Ranger,The Shadow Knows,Gene Autry,Roy Rogers,Hopalong Cassidy,Bob Steele,Tom mix ,Tim Holt,Lash Larue,Randolf Scott,Trigger

,buttermilk,Silver,Scout, and oh so many others from our past?Bob Hope,Bing Crosby,Red Skelton,Fibber Mcgee and Molly,Amos and Andy

Benny Goodman,Xavier Cugat

Clark Gable,Maureen Ohara,,Spencer Tracy,Katherine Hepburn,James Cagney,Edward G Robinson,Humphrey Bogart?

Hank Williams,Ernest Tubbs,Roy Acuff--to name just a few

Do you remember??

If you remember all or most of them

then you have lived my friend
those were the days when br br br people actuall... (show quote)

Bob Steele and Tim Holt don't
ring a bell, Tom Mix and Lash Larue I've heard of but am not familiar with; everyone else I remember, some of which I
was a big fan ! Does everyone
remember the names of Gene Autry's and Hopalong Cassidy's
horses ? Saturday morning programs like Circus Boy, Sky
King, Captain Midnight (later
changed to Jet Jackson -
Flying Commando), Jeff's Collie,
RinTinTin, Looney Tunes/Merrie
Melodies cartoons ? Those were good, decent, common-sense
programs; unfortunately, they've
been replaced with bland,
moronic kids' programs that are just lame and not very funny, amusing, or instructional ! That's entertainment ? I don't think so !
Even our beloved Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and many other Warner Brothers cartoons are
now also so bland that they're
no longer funny ! 'Politically correct' has gone too far; it's gotten out of hand and taken
the 'fun' out of 'funnies' !

Kinda brought this bit of humor
to mind; Other than money,
what is the biggest difference between rich people and poor people ?

Rich people have a canopy over their bed; poor people have a
can o' pee under their bed !

Grew up in a house with three adult smokers; it's a wonder
none of us kids got cancer from
second-hand smoke ! Dad
smoked Chesterfields (about 2 pks./day, non-filtered), mom
smoked Pall Mall (filters), and
my grand-dad (her dad)
alternated between Camels and Lucky Strikes (non-filtered), his cigars and his pipe ! Small
wonder I spent so much time upstairs in my room with the
door closed, reading and
listening to the radio or my
albums ! Tried smoking a little
in my late teens, but never got
into it; it just gave me
headaches and made me nauseous ! In my late-twenties
to mid-thirties, I tried using
smaller (Tiparillos) or milder
(Hav-aTampas) cigars to ward
the 'skeeters and clouds of gnats
out of my face while fishing;
even though I only put up clouds of smoke and didn't inhale, they still made me sick, so I finally
gave up on 'em and started looking for DEET-free, natural
bug repellents !

Rather that selling fond
memories of childhood, it may
be more prudent to invest in
one of those aforementiond
bidet kits; all you'd need is a
little paper or a few designated washcloths to clean and dry
afterwards !
