This discussion has certainly taken a number of detours. 1st. Plumbob, use the drippings from the meat for your gravy base. Ketchup. I know lots of people use it to ruin good meat but I could never do it. My brother's wife puts it on rib eye steak. That's just wrong. Yes jeremy, proper care of any game animal starts, in my opinion when the hunter puts his sights on the animal. One shot, one kill. If you shoot ole buckie 2 or 3 times around the edges the meat will never taste right. Get the hide off as soon as possible so the meat can cool, then keep it cool til it's cut up & frozen. I've eaten about everything made from wild game, except lasagna. #3 Hack. Hope your back gets better soon. Never had a tent til I was about 16. I used a tarp hung from rope between trees. I guess I'd eat meatloaf sandwiches for breakfast. Tight lines

Run into my share of both sides myself. Latest was on Christmas night on my way home. Looked him in the eye and said I honestly thought the speed limit was 70 when I passed him, because back aways it was 70. When I got pulled over 50' in front of me was the 55 sign.

Gave me a warning and he got a letter of appreciation sent to his CO. CO even wrote me back thanking me. So yes there are a few good ones out there.

I have seen the worst in the police anyone can see, and I mostly see the best. I’ll tell you my story. After I got back from Vietnam in 1967, I was sent to Fort Campbell, Ky. I did two weeks of riot control training with the 187th Airborne Infantry, then we shipped out to the Detroit riots going on. I hadn’t been back but a month and I didn’t know about any riots anywhere. After we arrived, we set up in their fair grounds for a couple of days then moved into town and into the basement of an elementary school in the Ghetto part of town. Our job was to ride behind the police, in our Jeep, and ride through neighborhoods and chase down any snipers when we got shot at. On our second night patrol we did receive fire and we jumped out and chased down the three kids who ran out of the house. They ran into some clothes lines and we caught up with them and turned them over to the police. We all walked back to the vehicles, the teens in cuffs and on the way back the police stopped. One of them came back to us and whispered something in the Lt. ear. He got out and followed the three police officers back to their car and got the three teens out, took them into an alley and shot them all in the back with shotguns. The Lt. came back to us and told us we don’t know anything, we didn’t hear anything, and we didn’t see anything.
For many years I thought about that but didn’t know what to do. Then the computers and the internet evolved. I looked up the Detroit riots and sure enough those three boys names were listed as killed in a shootout with the police at the Algiers Motel which the building the alley was behind. I contacted every law enforcement agency, any National black groups I could find in Detroit but everyone told me to forget it. It had been too long. But I couldn’t forget it and I searched for anyone who had written anything about that night. I finally found an author writing about the mysterious deaths of those boys. I told her what I saw, and she told me she knew it was murder but couldn’t prove it and she’d see what she could do now. But, she told me she had to be careful because the police followed her a lot just to scare her, and for me to be careful. I found out about a month ago she had finished her book and I emailed her about it but I never heard back, so I guess she gave up like everyone else. I don’t pursue it anymore but I’ll never forget it. BTW, the weapon used was a blank starter gun.

That’s the keep your mouth shut mentality preached by so many at so many levels. That was a very sad but perfect example of what I’m figuring was racism, arrogance, above the law character, and pure pain for you Hack and their families as well as many others. I have dealt with the keep your mouth shut thing a whole bunch for many years. The jerks preaching it were up to no good. Then just as this very sad scenario played out now the things that should of been done shortly after would be nearly impossible let alone some of the rank or other higher offices that some of the involved parties may have reached etc. sad sad. I’m sorry you had to witness all that Hack. Those sort of things are why whistleblowers are protected. Without getting in trouble with the powers that be a situation recently showed that very thing. The guilty want to punish and retaliate against whistleblowers and it’s absolutely WRONG.

You’re absolutely correct Jeremy. I kept my mouth shut until I got out of the Army. When I started looking for redemption for those kids and their families, everyone I contacted told me I might be putting myself in danger and to watch my back. I told them I didn’t care, it bothers me that much. Those poor black kids didn’t stand a chance after we turned them over to the cops. I can’t believe our PL went along with it either. What a coward. I served with real soldiers and officers. I had totally forgotten how crappy civilian was. Thanks for your concern.
