With 22 yrs of military service I find registration ok but the b.s. afterwards totally useless. I joined because i was an avid fisherman (pond style) before i entered military service. Now, with 5 grandchildren, I'm trying to get back into fishing. My main concern is for my sons and then their children.
Buffalo Springs Lake is all we have near us and I have been reviewing this site for help in my losing 30 yrs of fishing experience. I am acquiring my favorite Johnson reels from my era and it doesn't bother me that people with baitcaster point and talk under their breaths.

Like many here, we seek acceptance and assistance in bringing our outdated skills up to date. Texas Rig, Carolina Rig...I'm trying to learn. In my youth days...how many remember, Uncle Josh pork rinds. Hula Popper, Johnson Silver Minnow, Shyster and Anglia cocktails. Of course worms and grasshoppers were great bluegill bait.
Well gang, I've opened the door and exposed my lack of new fishing techniques. Tease, taunt or instruct...your choice.

I know where you're coming from. I missed the same 30 years, got back into it and now I'm teaching grand kids fishing, rod building, flytying and a little about life. I might tease a bit but I'll never taunt . Ask away. We love to help

Well Hoss, in spite of your gap due to your military service, your experience hasn't been lost and will be greater than you think. Since you are on the computer, simply Google, or Bing your questions on any specific topic, such as Texas rig, or Carolina rig, and they will take you through the steps, one by one. I go there almost every day.

You may also be experiencing other's looks of admiration! I have noticed this when I go to the rifle range with my M-1, but I don't care, I love my Garand!

The forum is excellent for different opinions, styles, and techniques of fishing for different tackle, waters. and fish, etc. There is always a learning curve, one you never reach the absolute top! So, learn to enjoy learning! We can help! Nothing will do you more good than keeping your line in the water. Just sayin...RJS

Welcome aboard TeMo.
I'm still using my old Penn reels that I bought in the late fifties.
My old Penn 26 is my baitcaster. 60 plus years old and still working. It has caught a lot of saltwater bass and salt game fish.
Reels are like everything else, technology keeps improving them but nothing wrong with old school reels either.

Welcome aboard TeMo. How come you didn't fish while you were in? I did 21 years in the Navy and I fished every chance I got, which was actually quite often. Priorities sir. Please let us know where you're at so we don't have to ask you every time you post. Where in the world is Buffalo Springs Lake?
