Try not to use rusted hooks. The rust or corroded areas cause weekends at the hook area. WD40 is the best proventive.

My wife guys small bags of cat litter and puts it in cloth bags as she has a sewing business and has to keep threads, needles and materials in FL humidity from moisture. As her machines are all computerized and has to keep pressise tension on threads, and selling anything to a customer with mildew is a no no. Three machines valued at $18K each all operated by computers on and on. So needless to say moisture in our house is a bad thing. Take a small say Crown Royal bag (good reason for purchase) and put a hand full of cat litter (unused) in your tackle box when you are done and have most of the water out can do a lot more than those little reusable throw aways.

WD 40 is petroleum based. Not fish oil

You might try Ospho. A green liquid that changes iron oxide to iron phosphate. Hardware store maybe. Online? Here on Maui we are dry and warm. Rust on hooks not much of an issue cars and tools though are attacked. Wash(brush) where needed. Color changes from rust to black. Chemistry is finished and oxidized things are revitalized.
