In the past couple years the people of north Alabama have been finding the 3M corporation has been dumping forever chemicals into the Tennessee River. These chemicals, PFOA's and PFOS's are called forever chemicals because these chemicals never break down in nature, they are cancer causing agents and they will be in the river from now own. The people down river have been poisoned because these chemicals can not be filtered out of drinking water by normal filtering processes. A few cities in north Alabama have upgraded their water filtration systems to hopefully get rid of this poison but most of these small towns can't afford the costly water filtration systems.
This morning it's been reported that 3M admitted to dumping these same poisons into the Mississippi river from it's Cordova, Illinois plant. They admitted to dumping in Alabama for, at least the past decade and may have done the same in Cordova. This came to light when a small originization, The Tennessee River Water Keepers, did some water sampling down river from the 3M plant.
3M was fined $214 million in north Al., about a days worth of profits for 3M for their illegal dumping.
$214 million for poisoning thousands of people in North AL. people who may not know how they were affected for years. They also dumped on land where a school was built poisoning no telling how many children.
$214 million is a pittance for what they have done, now we find out they did the same in Cordova Illinois and the Mississippi river. Let's just hope Cordova will really sock it to 3M and take more than 1 days worth of profits from this company that has willingly and knowingly poisons two of the biggest waterways in the United States.
Please remember this when you go to buy any product made by the 3M corporation.

Sad part affected folks will never get there fair share of blood money payout. Big money pays chump change for damage mitigation rarely gets to affected folks? Oil spill in Gulf, I never got a dime for lost fish and still hear of cleaning up damage to mitigation efforts? So Sad for the environment!

Trump just rescinded The Clean Water Act. Imagine what else is going to happen now? SAD.

This just means people like us will have to take up the slack that the EPA has been doing. If it weren't for the Tennessee River water Keepers, a very small origination formed by citizens who spoke out when they saw something, this may not have come to light. This small group is responsible for warning the people down river of these poisons and forced it into the light. This just tells you a small group of people doing the right thing can make a difference.
I'd really like to hear from some people down river from Cordova Il. feel about what 3M has done to their drinking water, anyone on the site from that area?

Spin off of the Dupont company i.e Chemours has dumped it into the Cape Fear River in North Carolina. It also can be found around air bases where fire fighting foams were used as it is a chemical component in those foams. Willow Grove Naval Air Station in Southeastern PA has contaminated the regional aquifer(fire fighting foams) in that area and no groundwater can be utilized, surface water from the Delaware River has to piped into that area from the Delaware River(approx. 20 miles away ) to provide drinking water. EPA has not established a safe drinking water limit for these compounds and it may be several years before they do.

Really hate to hear this, Mankind will continue to pollute this planet until one day mother nature will clear her throat and spit us out. Not really sure if that's not what she's up to now just coughing now, I dread the spitting out part.

Don't Elect People that destroy the Environment.

The Current President appointed the top of EPA right after the Electoral College appointed him to the Presidency.

The top of EPA said he would learn about the Environment from his employees. That guy sued the EPA previously (before being appointed) because he is an enemy of the Environment. You could tell the Government to do something about Environment but when enemies of the Environment are elected the Government is never EVER going to do anything about it. The Crooked Corporations want Enemies of the Environment in strategic positions to avoid doing things right.
