Lots of sound advice. Spool is most likely overfilled although the pic didn’t look as if this is the case. Cheap mono isn’t as limp so. Warm bath might help, and you will have to learn to use your index finger to keep the line in place as well as to release when you cast! If the problem continues in spite of all the recommended solutions you might consider braided line. RJS

Regarding bird nests, I’d you are a newbie to reels, you have a rather steep learning curve to master a bait casting reel, plus the high expense to get a top flight one! I believe your present problems with spinning are simpler and easier to fix! RJS

"Next time try spooling with 10 pound braid and attach a fluorocarbon leader with an alberto knot. Most will use a uni to uni for leader but alberto knot is best imo."

I agree with what "PapaChaCha68" has said. This will eliminate the majority of your casting issues..

bait casting equipment is no good for finesse fishing. if your new, just use mono line until you have some time in the saddle. looks like the reel in too full of line. most spinning reels have a faint line on spool to use as a guide. if not leave a quarter inch of spool showing, and go catch a big one!

If fishin from a boat, take all weigh off the line and let it out behind the boat while moving forward at not too fast of speed. This will take all the twist out of a line and relax it some so when you reel it back onto your reel a lot of that problem is solved. Just make sure to reel it in while still moving or keep tension on line between thumb and forefinger while reeling. Don't over fill spool either. Should take care of the problem. You can use the same method with any moving water ie a river. Just let line out in current and it acts the same way as usin a boat.

I can't imagine using a spinning reel today spooled with anything but braid and flouro leader. The perfect combo is 10lb. braid with a 6lb leader. You'll eliminate your problems and you.ll cast a lot farther and you'll catch more fish. I'll be using this set up on Sunday in a bass tournament.
